Well, I have been thinking long and hard the past few days, and think I have decided on my first AEG. I really like the look of the AUG, and having fired the real steel version I know how it feels and handles. Now what I want from you people is any experience you have had with the TM Steyr AUG military version. How does it compare to other AEGs you have handled, how is the power, and what did you think of the scope. I have looked up many past postings over at ASZ, but I wanted some more thoughts.
Also, where do you feel would be the best place to purchase this gun from, and what else should I get with it? I was looking at either the Infinity or Maryland Airsoft as they have the lowest US retailer prices I could find. Here's what I was thinking of buying for starters: TM Steyr AUG military
1 or 2 extra mags, I have heard that the AUG hicap jams often, so I'm thinking just standards for now
A battery and charger, can't decide on mini or the custom AUG battery at Infinity. What would the effects of the custom bat be on my gun?
A few bags of AE .2 BB's
I also need to get some combat gear such as BDU's and maybe a surplus load bearing vest, so any suggestions for gear would also be appreciated!

Get the civilian version. Then you can buy your own scope, the one on the military version sucks. Also, the fact that your gun would be light green is a downside.
Try TM .25 bb's. That is my brand and they shoot straiter than anything else. Also, I got a thing against BDU-wearing airsofters. I don't know why, I think it makes them look like paintballers or something like that. Go for black cargo pants and a grey T-shirt (save some money also).

Ed- What the hell you talking about? BDUs make us look like paintballers? If you haven’t noticed Airosft is a Mil Sim, so wearing military clothing goes hand and hand. Paintballers wear the neon jerseys and what not. Some of your POVs are quite strange, I must say.
Minky - I have only held the Mil Aug once, and it felt nice. As you prolly read from the ASZ post the gun is very sturdy. The scope is perfect for airsoft, but it doesn’t come off so you can’t replace it if it breaks. And if it gets hit to hard or something and the crosshairs fall off their guiding tracks then your SOL.
Personally I like the Civilian version. Not just for the black color, hell you can always paint a mil aug black, but cause its a bit taller, I am not really a fan of the long and sleek look. Also being able to put on your own sighting system is great. With the civilian you can put on a scope, laser, red dot, night vision any thing you want, the mil aug you would be stuck with the stock scope.
As for performance, bulls up types generally have more range then any other rifle. Reason being they have the longest inner barrels. I have always heard that the M4, Aug, and Ak47 are the best built AEGs right out of the box. Though I have never shot an AUG so I am just taking others opinions.
I think you will be VERY satisfied with their aug, and id highly suggest them. (Finally someone without an mp5sd6)

BDUs make us look like paintballers?? That has to be the most ridiculous things I have ever heard, as a matter of fact, paintballers are the ones wearing cargo pants. The whole point about airsoft is the milsim and tacsim. Ed, it seems your views conecerning airsoft are off the wall, and definatly in the minority. If you go to any organized airsoft event, I am afraid you will "have a thing against" every person there.

Aah..sweet sweet AUG. I've loved this gun from the very first time I watched Die Hard. Some might say its an ugly gun but they don't know what they're talking about. *me turns to Smokey* heehee. Pretty much all that needs to be said about the AUG has already been mentioned by Viking. I've heard a lot of people complain about its weight, but good lord if you can't run around with an 8 pound AUG you shouldn't be running around at all. If I had the extra money right now I would probably get the AUG myself, but I'll most likely get me a MP5 because I am poor. (Hadoken is also going for the SWAT look, and not many (if any) SWAT teams use the AUG. Methinks only US Customs uses the AUG SR's)

In case you needed any more help... feast your googleys at the beauty that is AUG! *me drools* mmmmhmmm! On the topic of BDU's, I say go for it! You can get cheap used BDU sets on ebay for about $16, or you can go take a look at The Sportsmans Guide, they have some great prices on British, Dutch, Swiss and US cammies. Worth a look.

You know when a Swat team kicks a$$ when they have Metallic on their website as a theme song. ;D

ARGH, thanks guys, now I can't make up my mind! I was all set on the Mil version since I dig that green and standard scope, but now.... The multiple sighting options for the SR are starting to pull on me. Too many damn choices, heh. If someone could give a URL for cheap scopes I would appreciate it, and that may change my mind for the SR version. Hadoken: I have been looking the past few days on ebay and that's probably where I'll end up buying. I was looking to get a surplus Woodland camo load bearing vest, but don't know if the AUG mags will fit right in the pouches. I guess if I buy it cheap I can always re-sell it. Thanks to everyone that responded, and keep it coming! I still have to decide on battery set-up and mag choices...As the immortal Jonny 5 once said, NEED INPUT!

Arrgh is right! I still can't decide on what I should get...I was set on getting the SD6, but now I'm leaning more and more to the AUG again. Methinks Smokey will be pleased with that Batteries!...visit Gonzo's Custom Airsoft Batteries he'll hook you up with something better than the standard mini.

Why not a P90?

While the P90 sure would be an original weapon to own, I just don't know if I'd like it too much. Its a nice looking weapon, and the red dot sight does make it a little more tempting. But, I just think it'll be too small for me. I'm not a big guy or anything but still I'd rather have something bigger than a keyboard in my arms. *shrugs* Aah poor Hado is still confused.

OK, as it stands right now, I am planning on ordering a Mil version AUG within the next month or so, as soon as I can get funds raised. I am thinking of ordering from Wargamer's Shop in Hong Kong. They have an AUG package that includes everything I want, for $400 including shipping. Compare that to $390 + shipping at the Infinity and $383 + shipping from Maryland Airsoft for the same items, and it looks like a good deal to me. I just am a little worried about overseas ordering, but I have heard good things about Wargamer's service before.
Now I just have to sell my soul and various other things on ebay to raise some fast cash!
