I've been feeling like a doof for the past...eh...umpteen games with SEMTEX, MIA, and somewhat of a dork at the NSAG games, because of the really crappy job I did at wiring a large battery to the M4. No longer! I'd like to remind everyone that this is stage 1 of the conversion, and I need some extra, final modifications in order to finish the project. Anybody who can give me an idea of how to protect the wires and make them look like part of the gun/blend in, it'll be quite appreciated. Finally, don't worry about the white plastic, I'll be painting that black, hehe.

Humm... that is definitly a lot better than the old "conversion". Veddy nice. AS for how to cover up the wires, i can't really think of anything at the moment, but if anything pops into mind i'll let ya know.

Bigmack just gave me the idea of using heatshrink (black already, usually) and then just using a lighter and heating it, so that it will form right around the wires and connectors. Great idea, Biggie! I already knew about that heatshrink bending and stuff because of all the soldering I've had to do with fixing batteries. I just wish I would have thought of that sooner.

Looks good Newman, looks real good. You know, you CAN get black zip ties... So you don't have to paint them... As for covering the wires, yeah, black shrinky stuff, or maybe the outer covering from parachute cord... But good job. In fact, taking a page from your book today, I just painted the stock and fore grip of my MC51 a nice olive drab today. Looks damned sexy!!! As soon as I get some pics I'll put them up... Vitalis

Vitalis: I've actually found black zip ties, and although they'd work great for two of those places I put the white ones (ok, I'll go some black ones I guess), they're not long enough to go around the part that you squeeze together to make the slide move. I had to buy long zip ties for that, and the only way they'll be black is to paint them. I thought about using a strap like I used for my sling; that would work, but I'd have to cut it really short and find some way to have it make a loop. Painting just sounds a whole lot easier.

Hey,
I have like three and a half billion zip ties... ;D It is how I hold most of my shield edging on... hehehe, and I have a bunch of long black ones.
If I ever get to meet ya, I'll bring a handful of zip ties for ya, nice long black zip ties.

The Glock, my friend, will be repainted shortly. I must say, though, that Minky did a fine job painting it (I traded a battery for it).
Vitalis is kidding, Mike, ehhehe. I'll go buy some black zip-ties tomorrow.

Actually Newman, I was serious....
heheheh
I should own stock in zip-tie manufacture... It IS how I hold my shield edging on... quick and replaceable... hehehehe, easy to repair when you have an armor malfunction on the field.
Zip ties are gold to the SCA medieval warrior, just like Duct Tape... can never have enough duct tape.... ;D
But, good job, the rifle looks real good.

I'm only in this thread to shed a tear for my former glock's impending return to black slide tedium. Have fun getting the gun apart Newman....it's a real pain in the rump. I can't even remember how it came apart now, but I know it involved a butter knife. Oh, I forgot to mention that the battery works great, but it doesn't fit in my AUG.... poop. I think I'm going to bust the pack apart and resolder it into a more AUG friendly shape. Or I might just sell it, hehe ;D Good job on your latest M4 conversion too Newman, it looks good. I am a bit sad to see the vertical grip gone though..... I wanted to take bets on how long it would last at the next skirmish Yes I'm evil.

In addition to painting the furniture on my MC51 olive drab tonight I also took apart a couple of my cheap JM80 .45 NBB pistols and painted the frames olive drab. They look pretty sweet.... Leave the glock as is Newman, it is cool already, and we don't want to see Minky cry... Vitalis

I have nothing else to say! Minky, you know I wouldn't take apart a perfectly good gun/Glock. Time to whip out my secreeeet paint, and to use a brush instead of a can! *goes and finds that "secret" paint jar has sealed completely together* My hands hurt now, I tried opening the thing up and it just doesn't budge! Oh well, I'm going to the hardware store tomorrow to buy: 1 Black zip ties 2 Fuse 3 Possibly black paint, if they have the kind I need (special superdeedooper kind hehehe) Thanks for all the input, guys.

One more thing that would kinda professionalize the look would be to get rid of the binocular case (or whatever that is) and get a blackhawk extra mag pouch made for the carbine stock then you could cut some foam in the shape of a magazine, with a cutout for the battery of course and that would look way cool. Or better yet get a 30 round mag (any brand, USA are cheap mags, not good for shooting but I think they are the cheapest price and for the project, they would suit just fine!) anyway take the guts out (spring & follower) and make a "custom battery pack that fits inside the mag housing (sounds like you have the soldering skills) It would probably have to be a custom nunchuck style battery arrangement, to fit inside. then you could make two and carry them in mag pouches just like your other mags. Yes I know the binoc case is cheaper, just giving you some suggestions for future additions..... Blackhawk price is $24.95 plus tax and shipping [glow=red,2,300]apply your 20% MiA discount and thats $24 TOTAL with tax and shipping included in MI. [/glow] Just another perk for my Michigan Customers... Wolverine Tactical Supply and as far as covering the wires, the shrink tube is a good idea, but while you are at the electronics shop, see what the plastic coil "wire loom" looks like,(I think thats what its called, kinda similar to what automotive makers use to tidy wire harnesses in cars) I am thinking I have seen it with a fairly small diameter and in black. this won't make the wire 'dissappear", but it would give a "landwarrior" look to the gun and be slightly more durable than the shrink tube. Not knocking the shrink tube, just another thing to check out while you are shoppin.
