I'm pretty sure it makes the gun's internals more durable. I'm not sure tho', so don't quote me on that.

some TM gearboxes have been known to crack under the pressure of upgraded springs.. they're for replacement of the stock gearbox to handle wayyyy big springs...like the M150's and 300%'s.

A reinforced gearbox is simply that.........reinforced, the actual case that holds the gears and guts is thicker in some places and much heavier. It is absolutely essential if you intend on an upgrade of 400fps or more,
I have a cracked mechbox sitting in the shop that was destroyed by a PDI 170% spring (400 fps)
I have a side by side internal picture somewhere, I will try and find it, so you can see the difference.

I've heard that the version 3 is already reinforced, or atleast more so than the version 2. Is there any truth to that?

stock version 3 mechboxes can handle up to M130's... you can put an m130 in...but noone will play with you.
