What procedures/tools/etc. do you guys use when cleaning out your hydration bladders? I just bought a 3L Storm for the paltry sum of $10.25 off of eBay, I figure I should be certain that it's clean before I use it.

best bet is to buy a cleaning kit. Otherwise, just put a small amount of bleach into some water and let it sit in there for a few hours. Then rinse it and rinse it some more. That's how I cleaned mine after I filled it with Jack and Coke.

I can picture that, playing some airsoft and one of the players falls over and passes out in the middle of the game.

Hahaha it wasn't for airsoft, it was for a weekend in the field back at Ft. Bragg. Pretty much everybody would fill their camel backs up with booze. Lemon powder and vodka isn't too bad.

On further inspection of my hydration carrier and bladder, it seems to be in good condition, considering the price I brought it used for compared to buying it brand new. The only real quirk is that the fill cap seems to leak water even when screwed on tightly, what kind of steps can I take to remedy this? The bladder in general has retained watertight integrity, save the cap area. By the way, it appears that I have the SDS Molle Hydration Carrier, not the Storm as I previously thought (major difference is the lack of D-rings). secure.specialtydefense.com/cgi-bin/sds/5030.html

This could prove useful to other people with similar problems.
Problems:
1) The lip of the wide mouth opening was uneven 2) The o-ring is a little small
Partial Solution:
1) Sand the lip flat 2) Screw the cap on tightly
Result:
It only dribbles a bit when held completely upside down, so for all intents and purposes I think I'll be satisfied with its current condition. if I have more leak problems lying prone or generally having my camelbak in an awkward position, I'll purchase a new o-ring.

Got the o-ring. Leaking is still happening. Crap!
And this is no longer the fifth link when googling "camelbak o-ring" they've probaly censored Google or something, hah

Are you sure the leak is coming from the cap? I had a leak in my Camelbak that I was positive was caused by a leaky cap. Turns out it was the tube-and-barb connection at the bottom of the bladder. I slapped a jubilee clip on there and bye-bye leaks.
If the cap is the problem, I suppose you could wrap some teflon tape around the threads to make a better seal. That could get a bit messy, though, if you need to screw and unscrew the cap repeatedly.

I'm pretty sure it's not the bottom, I've taken the bladder out of the carrier to check for leaks (which I will do again to make sure.) I will look into teflon tape as I don't really have a need to constantly screw/unscrew the cap, thanks for the tip.

Problem pretty much solved.
The key is to moisten your o-ring before screwing it in all the way, my rig is working like a champ now.
