I will be doing side-by-side field tests with the BE and the Maruzen, but having looked at the BE today, i would say not to expect much of it. The box advertises as shooting 430fps with .20's while in reality it is much closer to the 320FPS range.
As far as upgrades, one almost essential upgrade is a metal spring guide, as the one it comes with is a very light plastic.
Will post more as i tinker with it

The thing that worries me most about it, is the variation of FPSs that are being thrown around. I've heard 450, 400, 350.....which one is it? If it's all 3 they've got some serious QC issues.

I'm guessing they are skimping out on the lube. For some reason or another, most of the cheaper guns I've worked on has little to no lube in them.

True, or it's the wrong kind. I opened up the gearbox from that knockoff S-System and could have sworn that grease was butter. I rubbed it in my fingers and it eventually disolved. Still an easy fix though.

as far as lube goes, i would go so far to say as the BE L96 is way OVER greased. I had to take apart the trigger box to get out a piece that had fallen in there, and there were globs of grease inside, as well as in the piston/cylinder unit.
the inner barrel was also EXTREMELY dirty (this could account for the low FPS). We're talking so dirty that when running a cleaning rod through it, it jammed a couple of times.
More to come

Minor update.
My BE L96 came in yesterday. After some minor disassembly, I took it to Spyops and used their Chrono.
With my .25 it was 416. With an excel .20 it was at 455.
I wiped some of the GOBS of grease off the piston. There was so much grease on it. Over-all, it's well worth what I paid.
The complaints I have are it has a cheap plastic spring guide, and the piston seems to be very cheap. I am turning a new spring guide this week, and will be talking to a tool designer about making a Piston of Delron. Not sure how well the Delron will hold up in the long run, but we'll see. I might get a piston made of UHMW too. UHMW is a self-lubing plastic. Damn near indestructible.
I'll be at flint on the 18th. Whomever's there can take a look.

Thanks.
I hope all the Type96 upgrades fit on the BE.

I have personaly chronoed all BE L96 we had in stock all 6 of them and igot anywhere from 420-440
Also in comparison to BE we tested all our UTG L96 and got anywhere from 460-472
They look identical but are different in someways .

The warrior - 1 is the same as the both elephant. It is $85.
The UTG Mk96 is quite a bit more, for a 40-50 FPS increase.
I am going to see what I can do this week about turning an aluminum piston, stainless spring guide. I should be able to get my BE into the 500's with just a few hours on the mill/lathe.

I would too, however with my access to machinery, I would take the $85 Warrior-1 over both of them, and spend a little time on the lathe.
My time spent on me is free. If I can save $100 by buying a sub-standard gun, then taking a few hours to do the tool and die work myself, then it's worth it to me.
I am sure that not everyone has access to the machinery I do, so the UTG is an obvious choice.
