Ok guys, I have had two games now to really view the new rules and regulations that MiA is using. I think they are working pretty well, except one part. The FPS limit.
The fifty foot minimum is not being used at all, and I personally think it is unrealistic for certain FPS ratings. This past weekend there were several engagements that were under the fifty foot mark by guns that I know are shooting hotter than 351 FPS. They were more in the 20 to 25 foot range.
Take a look at the two FPS charts I have below, the first is our own MiA FPS rules, the second is Airsoft Ohio's FPS rules:
MiA Rules:
1-350 fps - Arms length engagement limit
351-600 fps – 50 foot engagement limit
601+ fps – To be determined by event organizers
Airsoft Ohio Rules:
- 0-350fps: Full auto and no engagement limit.
- 350-399: Full auto 25' minimum distance.
- 400-449: Semi auto 50' minimum distance.
- 450-500: Semi Auto 75' Minimum Distance.
It is obvious that AO (Airsoft Ohio) rules are more aggressive than ours, and I also think more realistic.
What I am proposing here is a change. Either AO's rules, or the ones that I am going to propose below. I know no one wants to get hurt, I know no one really enjoys the sting of BBs, but come on. Getting stung and the occasional welt is part and parcel to the game. You know this getting into it, you know it may happen.
Here are the FPS rules that I would feel comfortable and happy with:
0 - 400 FPS: No engagement limit
400 - 500 FPS: 25' Minimum engagement limit
500 - 600 FPS: 50' Minimum engagement, Semi Auto Only
600+ FPS: Not Allowed
Personally, I could raise the 0 - 400 to 0 - 450 and be happy. I have taken full bursts at point blank range from a gun shooting a confirmed 420 FPS. It was no big deal, it left some welts, but hey, that was life.
I really think we should adopt the more aggressive AO rules or even pick up the ones I propose. We are using much closer engagement limits than 50' anyway.
Think about it and let me know your response.

Hmmm, yes I see your point. I agree that the previously proposed limits seem to be a little too restrictive for even modestly upgraded airsoft guns. I do like your newly proposed limits with the exception of no engagement limit for 0-400fps. I believe that we should seriously try to avoid point blank shots and should consider surrender or "knife kill" rules as an alternative. Although point blank shots are few and far between they do have the potential to do the greatest damage.
I would like to offer an amendment of: - 1-400 fps: Arms length engagement limit
(I say 1 fps because 0 fps is motionless *ignoring decimals*)
Other than that I believe that the proposed changes should be temporarily adopted for review on the playing field.

Ok, thanks Frostee, my bad!!!
I actually did mean "arm's length"
I like that better.
Let's get some more input on this... So, I will take this as "three votes FOR the arm's length 1-400 FPS rule"
Ok, sounds good to me...

I agree with the "arm's length" as well. I have been hit with these same guns and have no problem taking the hit. I agree with Frostee that the knife kill should still be used when possible, however that isn't always an alternative.

Ok, is there anymore input on this?
Anybody?
So far, some positives have chimed in, but nothing anywhere near the amount of people that frequent this place. Come on, speak up.
I would like to hear everyone's input on this.
Ok, here is it, adjusted with the recommended changes.
1 - 400 FPS: Arm's Length
400 - 500 FPS: 25' Minimum engagement limit
500 - 600 FPS: 50' Minimum engagement, Semi Auto Only
600+ FPS: Not Allowed
Even if you don't like them, chime in. By speaking up is the only way we can make MiA work.

I'm good with those. i like them a lot batter than the old 350-600 50' limit. that's was just too broad of a range for it to be effective and fair.

Like jdl_9th said, they are more specific and therefore more fair! I'm cool with it!

Cool, that makes a big whopping five of us that have written on this topic. In addition I know that Resnick, Sulla, Rane, and Fionn from Draconis agree with this as we have discussed them already.
I am going to give this thread till tomorrow night and then put up a poll for voting. I'm really hoping that the MiA body at large will speak up. This is important stuff that is at the infancy of our creation.
We are missing several of the big players around here like Hadoken, Viking, Minky, Newman, WTS-Mike.. etc. As well as every other player here in Michigan.
Take care,

Hello Everyone,
I've been a member on here for a little over a month, so I'm not very well known, but I am the team leader for Team Fatal Impact. I concur with your ideas for changes on the current FPS/Range rules. I will try to start posting more often!

sounds good to me, but whose arm are we going to use for the length?
the 0-400 fps is a bit more fair for everbody I feel, and it really doesnt hurt that much more.

I have to say, I'm kind of surprised at the amount of people in favor of these speed/range rule changes. I think the thing that bugs me most is the 600 FPS cap, just because I know that somebody will think "hmmm...I can go up to 600, so let me see how fast I can make my gun!". Perhaps lower the limit to 500 for AEGs? Also, if I'm reading your revisions right Vitalis, full-auto fire would be allowed with guns shooting 500 FPS? Sorry, but getting lit up from 25 feet away by a gun that fast doesn't sound fun to me....
I'm kind of surprised you support these changes too Newman, considering the incident with Viking's AK a few games back. His gun probably falls right around 400 (we'll know for sure this Saturday...), so with these revisions we would all be subject to similar situations, i.e. close range full-auto 400 FPS BBs.
I still say (for the millionth time) that we stick with the AO rules for a while yet.
*edit* Forgot to mention this, but Vitalis don't you and your group mostly play with full facial protection in addition to goggles? That might need to be considered when you say you don't mind the faster speeds, since there's not much chance for you to loose a tooth or get some nice bloody face welts. Not everybody plays with a mask though... so they might not want such speedy BBs coming at their kisser.

Hell,
I would be happy to CHANGE to AO rules....
At least they are a bit more tolerant and playable than what we have now.
Edit in response to Minky's edit:
Naw, only two of us wear face masks. The rest of us don't. Hey, I'm ok with AO fps rules, that is actually something I think is a great idea. But what we have now DOES NOT WORK and needs to be changed.

Why does it seem like we always go in a circle and end up back at AO rules, I have nothing else to say. Also, just wanted to make sure you caught the edit on my above post Vitalis, since I was editing while you posted.
