Hey guys! My name is Tye, founder of the brand new concept, the Objective Box. For the past 3 years we have developed the world’s first complete iOS app that can fully manage an airsoft game from start to finish. Using different audio effects, the app signals game start, end, time remaining and coordinates an entire mission enhancing game play with ease. The Objective Box eliminates the need for people to act as game coordinators allowing the smallest group to be able to run a multitude of fully functional, coordinated missions and objectives. This app is so reliable that it can be used for full blown operations if desired. The Objective Box app is now available on iTunes and features three unique mission modes: Timed Mission, Capture Mission and Rush Mission. Each mission type allows the user to customize many options to run different scenarios. We will also be releasing other mission modes in the future which will expand game type options for players. Not only do we offer players a great app to run their op, but we have developed a playable objective that amplifies the audio from the app, allowing everyone to be able to hear what is happening on the field of battle. It also aides in protecting your device while in use. The best thing about is that we show the community how to build this simple, inexpensive device! This is the what the Objective Box is about and it will forever change the way we war game. You may have seen the latest review from Booligan Airsoft. Check out an outsiders review of the Objective Box! I encourage you to take a look at our website as it will explain everything in better detail. Please visit www.objectivebox.com. Feel free to post any questions you may have about this app and product as we are happy to help. Have a great day! Tye Campbell

Yup... found my winter project I think I'll use a real ammo can though. No Limits will have one of these come spring. Also, any plan for Android support? If not, I guess I'll have to find a used / refurbed iPod touch.

If not, I guess I'll have to find a used / refurbed iPod touch. Let us know if you need any help on your build! We too thought about using real ammo cans but for the mass majority, they are a bit more difficult to cut and modify. That is why we went with the plastic-polymer box instead. As for Android, not at this time. We had to choose one platform or the other to start the development as they are two entirely different platforms and we chose Apple. The main reason why, is because a preowned iPod Touch can be purchased for very little these days with gives players options if they have an Android or Windows phone or if they do not wish to use their personal iPhone on the field of battle.

Now your software needs to run on iOS 6+ correct? That means I would need an iTouch 4th or 5th gen correct? I'm hoping after Christmas people will dump their old devices cheap on ebay since most everything is going to $80+ unless it has a busted screen. Darn people thinking their used devices are gold.
Android would have been nice since you can usually pick up new devices for under $50, but I understand you have to start somewhere with your design process. It looks like an awesome piece of software for hosting events.
As for the box, I'm hoping I can cut it with my RotoZip or Dremel for sake of neatness since I have circle jigs for both. I want to use a metal can for the sake of it being robust enough to deal with people who for some reason choose to throw things. Somebody always attempts to throw an ammo can in our bomb games no matter how many times you say not to.
I have a Lepai amp that puts out 20w x 2ch, so that should be more than sufficient to power those Pyle horns.
I'm looking forward to building this. Thanks for the awesome app.

We are hear to help. You should try that 20watt amp first and see how it does but consider a slightly more powerful amp. The 60watt amp (our build amp) is just loud enough for larger fields with the Pyle speakers. We have a 100watt amp in one of our boxes and that sucker can always be heard so we usually place that one in the center when running multiple Objective Boxes on a large field. I would try looking on Craigslist in your area for cheap iPods. You can alway barter with people in person. 4th Gen and up run the app. The 4th Gen are the cheapest but to have a little larger screen, I would go to the 5th Gen. We don't mind Android, but they have so many different operating systems and we wanted a seamless running app. That is the beauty of the iOS platform as it runs the same on all devices. We will see about developing for Android in the future but for now, go the iPod route.

Those windows phones are sexy but I cant get over the less apps thing as well as its windows and I'm a Linux fanboy. Bad thing is, Windows Phones use Windows 8 & 8.1 to make app development across all systems easier, and it really is a great idea to do that. Only issue was people didn't by Windows Phones because of the lack of apps, app developers ignore Windows Phones because of the lack of users, and Microsoft can't grow the market without having good apps. Viscous cycle that can only be broke by either Microsoft making their own apps, or developers taking the risk and backing Windows. It's funny because my 200 dollar Windows Phone has better specs than the Iphone 5 and comparable specs to the Iphone 6, if not a little better. It's a greate device, especially if you are getting ready to transition from Windows 7 to 8 like I am now. As far as linux goes, meh. Unless you are trying to run a server, atm, super computer, hacking computer or something else it really isn't needed.

As an Android developer I just wanted to let you know that you can specify an older version like say 2.3 in your IDE (Eclipse for me) and it will generally work with all versions above it. You just have to make sure you design the UI using relative sizing and placement and not hard coded locations otherwise tablets and large phones will look like garbage. Also, you can create a virtual android device on your computer that can simulate different android configurations for testing. That virtual device software is included in the Android SDK.
