I just got off the phone with Greg ( owner of matrix) he was just telling me about a abandoned school ( closed due to financial reasons) located in Detroit. He told me that he has the proper permission to host games in the facility. He asked me to post here and see if anyone was actually interested in playing, he does not want to invest the effort in making the place game ready if no one is interested. He says the school is still in good condition and has many classrooms and a large gym. He is working on getting pictures to me and I will post them when I have them. He says that the parking lot is fenced in as well.
Let me know what you think.

Would he be open to other teams hosting events there?

Could be interesting. Biggest issue will be keeping the site secure between games. Basically, don't expect anything that is left there to stay there, including electrical, plumbing, anything metal, plywood, ect. It kind of depends on the neighborhood though.

That sounds like an awesome winter CQB field. Can it be heated?

Heat? What do you need heat for? We've played at Farmington with no heat, and it works out just fine.... as long as you don't have a gas gun, or try to throw a thunder b.

I believe he said it was already gutted of the pipes and there is no heat. Farmington does have heat by the way.
As for different hosts, do you mean like personal games or just someone besides me hosting it.

People pay hundreds of dollars to play at places like that once a year. If I can pay even a little less, Im interested.

Elvis, you're looking at ~ 2 hours bud. If this is a real thing, I'd expect a lot of problems with the logistics of hosting airsoft in a place like Detroit. Mainly, we're going to attract a LOT of attention. In my Detroit experiences, attention is bad. This is of course will depend on where we are in Detroit.
My point: walking into an abandoned school with Gun bags and camo in a city like Detroit can cause some really bad problems. Regardless, If its safe, and I'm not gonna get mugged, I'll be there.

My thought would be a bunch of guys in camo, tactical gear and guns would scare away a lot of the gangbangers and hobo's.

I'm not usually terribly into CQB, but this sounds really cool. It would be a really great setting for a MILSIM or scenario game that would no doubt lead to some very interesting gameplay. As these guys have noted, some of the logistics could make it difficult, but if it isn't too difficult and he has the legal permission to run games there, I'm all for it.
Nevertheless, I'm kinda concerned where Greg will get the money. Isn't the current Matrix having a bit of a hard time? Don't get me wrong, I love that field and I love this idea. I just don't want both to have to be closed if he does get this school running and it doesn't get as much revenue as expected.
If it works out fine logistically and financially, I'm interested to say the least.

Yeah I'm interested too. Hopefully you guys can host a little intro event just so we can get a first hand look at it before you guys develop the field.

Yah, Farmington does have heat, but it can get pretty cold in there in the mornings before he has it going.
