Yo, I would love to get into airsoft. I went to a air soft b-day party when I was a kid and loved it, my parents even bought me my first gun which was a m14 with a gunlight and lazor, but as a kid things come and go. Now that I'm adult I would love to get into airsofting again, (I currently don't have any guns or equipment) but unfortunately the fields I researched are about 2-5hrs way from me and the one that was here shut down. Does anyone know where I can find a field? Or a group that occasional comes an plays in the area? ( I live in the greenville, MI area) Thanks for your time. I work 3rd shift so I'll answer as soon as I can. Thanks again.

You can use the MAP-Michigan Airsoft Project to find something closer to you, if it exists. You can also browse the events section to find out what scheduled events are going on when and where to see if any are close enough to you that you can do it. As for gun(s)/gear you may want to ask people for advice depending on which gun platform you wish to run. There are a large number of choices out there and some are downright awful. But if you choose wisely you will get a gun that will be able to be upgraded and maintained, and serve you well for as long as you wish to use it.

When it comes to guns, 90% of us advise the G&G combat machine, hands down, those things are workhorses, cheap and easy to work on.

And seconded. I don't have mine anymore (I actually had two) but it was without a doubt the best starter gun I ever had.

If you live far away from fields i would recommend just trying to make it to the bigger games like milsims or ops, or just dedicate maybe a weekend a month to go and play a rec game. I agree with everyone saying get a g&g, there both low cost and very effective the internals are fairly good and it would be a good gun to upgrade over time, also i recommend a good set of eye pro like oakley m frames they double as airsoft goggles and my daily sunglasses but nothing is worse then playing airsoft and you cant see because you cheaped out buying a 10 dollar paintball mask that fogs once you put it on.

After you purchase a decent gun and face protection I would recommend investing into a optic of some some sort. Aim makes a couple good red dots.

Nah, some gear is more important than an optic. You can run perfectly well on irons for a while. I would say Gun (G&G CM, of course) Batteries (a couple 9.6v will work) Mid caps (the Elite Force ones are pretty Schveet©) Good eye protection (I run valken Echos and they are actually pretty awesome despite the $13 price mark) BDUs (a good set of either DCU or woodies will perform excellently for a cheap price) And then some sort of LBV. My brother still has his cheap $20 NCStar chest rig and it holds up very well. For people just feeling out the game a little more, I would say not to blow your budget on gear. Buy something decent and work up to better gear.

To add on to what abbot said about the bdu, I would check out a secondhand store like goodwill or salvation army. I picked up a couple woodland and one multicam bdu there for $5 for the tops and $5 for the bottoms

Thanks guys, I actually found a field not to far from me, its up in muskegon which is about a 45min-1hr drive from Greenville, so its not that bad of a drive. Yeah, I was just going to use my safety glasses that I use for work, a thick bandanna for my face, a sweater and a pair of good jeans for now. XD But, yeah I think equipment are on my first to buy list currently.
Where would be a good site to buy a gun? (please don't say ebay/amazon)

I would stay away from airsplat as many people including myself have had bad experience with them. Also, the commerce section here may be a good option also, as you can test fire them for your self. Just make sure you don't get ripped off. Edit: Saftey glasses will not cut it. Most fields will not allow them anyway. Invest in a pair of full seal goggles and possibly a lower steel mesh facemask. The bandana would be good to protect your neck. A drcent pair of goggle will run around $10-$25 and a lower face mask about $10. Your eyes and face are not worth cheaping out on!

I wouldn't spend money on optics yet either if you are just getting into the game. More ammo and mags will be best used at first. Red dots are cool but unnecessary to play.

I would recommend the King Arms Thompson M1A1. But then again, I'm very biased.

For load bearing gear I always recommend chest rigs. picture this. I've been playing for ten years, have used many vests including blackhawk, 5.11 cheap UTG's and all the tacticool condor stuff, and have even used "super" chest rigs like USGG and blueforce.
I always find myself back at either two things.
pistol belt with alice pouches and other basics, OR a 10.00 chicom chest rig.
go basic and stay there. never spend money on gear your sure you wont LOVE, and if at all possible, try it before you buy it.
