Since replicas going out of state do not need to be colorized, I take it it's up to the retailers to make this change?

(b) As used in Section 20165, “imitation firearm” does not include any of the following: (2) A spot marker gun which expels a projectile that is greater than 10mm caliber. [/quote] Because I'm sure nobody has ever gotten shot holding a paintball gun. Just like nobody's ever caused serious injury or death with one either, but sure, carve out an exception for them. Paintball's "better" Wraith that's why they single out paintball from the equation.

Paintball (at least speedball) guns look pretty unrealistic as is. I think that's why they were left out.

To be honest, the legislators probably just didn't want to have to fight the paintball industry, which does already produce guns in a wide variety of colors. Going after airsoft retailers is probably easier than fighting actual manufacturers who are building [or assembling, as the case may be] products in this country. Plus the incident that started this whole thing involved a police officer shooting an airsoft gun wielding teenager.

Again, the gun had an obvious orange tip. This is an issue I think we can all agree can be dealt with better with education and police reform.
There was an incident where a police officer shot a man who had a dissembled spring pistol in his lap while he was sitting in the passenger seat. You can't tell me at that range he didn't see it was non functional.

You have to remember that this is California. This is the state where you have to prove you need a gun in order to carry one. These people know so little about guns, airsoft or otherwise that they believe the ar-15 is the most dangerous gun on the planet. When presented with facts and reason, they prefer to stick their fingers in their ears and yell as loud as possible.

It doesn't chnage anything other than future states who will try to fallow suit. Even michigan per some dumb ass law or another say they have to be "sold" with a orange tip. Not maintained. So once a person buys the replica they just remove/paint it camo colors and go from there.
It is how things will progress with every state having some mentally defunct person shoot up a public place. It's coming and our voice will be drowned out by the mass' of parents of dead urban kids who didn't have a responcible adult In their life to teach them right from wrong.

At the very least there is a year delay until the law goes into effect giving the industry a chance to regroup and repeal this ridiculous law. At least the ASF foresaw the inevitable and was able to lessen the degree of coloration required (great video dizzyshot (Bad Company), good find).
