I'm not neccessarily a newbie, but I've only played at one field, and it's indoor. I was hoping to find some recommended places not too far away...
I'm from Troy, 48084, does anyone know of a good place within a half hour drive? I've been going to Commandos but their open hours don't work with my regular hours.
Thanks!

Take a look through the events thread. Most fields that are played on have events listed, with addresses for the field. You should be able to find what you are looking for there.

Ill actually be helpful and review some of the field unlike the other 2 that just told you stuff you already know.
You have No limits (outdoors)that is large mostly open play area with plenty of structure and cover, it is more suited for paintball and there speedball style but still works good for airsoft. This field draws very large crowds of 100+. Playing here is fun 99% of the time depending on other players. owners are great and most of the people are very cool. I would recommend.
Next you have matrix. This is my personal favorite field. It is outdoors and more wooded then no limits, it is also smaller and suited for a group of about 40 people. Unlike no limits the engagements are closer, most shooting lanes range from 300 to 10 feet. The best aspect of this field is how stealthy it is. You can take 5 different ways to get to the same point and sneak around structures to flank the enemy.
Tango down: (Indoor) This is a 7 story CQB field. I have only played here once but it was very fun. The games are very fast paced and normally last under 4 minutes each, that being said you play 4 or 5 games in a row and just switch sides between matches. The staff is also very cool here too.
Farmington: (indoor) This is also a CQB field, it is a lot of nice winding halls and dark rooms. The owner has put a lot of effort into the field over the last year and made some very nice improvements. This is my favorite indoor field.
I have not played at any of the other local fields around metro Detroit so I will have it over to someone else that has.

MAP is an excellent link as well as haunting the Events page here on MiA. Best bet for you though is to try them all out over time. Each field is different and may not necessarily cater to your particular play style. I personally will make the drive from Jackson to Taylor every time to go to No Limits as well as Farmington CQB in the off season. I just seem to always have fun at both locations every time I go, mostly because of the player base that frequents these events. Hopefully MAP and the Events page will help you out.

We just tried Phoenix Tactical (under new management since June). It seemed well-run, they chrono'ed each gun, and their Saturday hours were/are 3pm to 1am (for $20). They had an outdoor field as well (but we stayed inside).
The crowd was young (so it is the perfect place for my 13 year old to start out). Steve loved it, Jeff didn't get bored (it was a target-rich environment) and I had fun as well.

Kjones could not have said it better, unfortunately though, Tango Down just shut down at the end of August, because they are moving location (unannounced where yet)
