I was referring to the promise of pictures and a broken link. So was I.

I was hoping to use this event to get one of my buddies back into airsoft who was phasing out of it. That didn't happen. I met some cool guys, but I didn't feel that it was run well. You can't have people blatantly swearing or saying inappropriate things over the mic. It makes for a bad first impression on people and portrays the hoster as someone he may not be. The staffing wasn't really staffing at all. The most professional people there were the guys running the chrono. They asked politely and made sure people wore eye protection. He set a standard. I wasn't there for the night but I assume it didn't go that well according to other posts.

My complaints have already been brought up so I won't beat a dead horse. I will say that I had a good time. Honestly, it was just great to get to hang out with everyone and be on the same team slinging plastic. Even if there wasn't much of a challenge (until RAGE switched) there was still a lot of fun to be had for the first 30 minutes. The campfire was good, except the aforementioned drunk kids. I kept thinking I'd be able to drive home at midnight *laugh* yeah.. no. DeathDealer and I passed out in the car until 5:00 and left then. Overall there were certainly some failures from the staff, but it's pretty hard not to have fun hanging out with you guys.
Thanks for dog/brat Mosin and Coldwave!

Like X, I have nothing new to add to the complaints. I will say that Green team was stellar at calling their hits. I'd also like to give the kid that was rocking the support weapon props. He effectively pinned down 7 to 10 guys and even managed to get a hit on me.
Honestly, the whole reason I attended was achieved, hanging out with all of tan. I really enjoyed the initial push and also the time when Rage flipped on us. The campfire, minus the drunk kids, was just about the best part.
It was nice to meet Wolf's son and hang out with everyone. Thank you Wolf for the JD, and Mosin for the Mosin dogs! I had a great time "squading up" with the Immortal guys, and loved scouting with Guns and Carter.

I was not going to post anything, because honestly I like almost all the OCAA guys, and I wasn't impressed with how the game went. However after reading a lot of things on here, I need to say this.
The game: IT WAS FREE! Free camping, free parking, free registration, free toilet services. I don't care how bad of a time you had, people put in effort, time, and money, to put on a days worth of activities for this community. I don't believe it was organized the way a milsim (or scenario) game needs to be to run smoothly, but this is a young team, with young members, who showed a HELL of a lot of initiative and gumption to organize not only an airsoft game, but a place for people to camp, and drink, or whatever they wished to do.
Maybe a lot of you guys are more well off than me, (which wouldn't be hard to accomplish) but for someone to spend that amount of time and effort so that I had something to do for a weekend without having to come up with extra money to do so, means a lot.
The camping incidents: the person who was stealing, whatever their excuse or reason, failed terribly. HOWEVER, that is a personal failure not a failure as a team, I'll explain why. The idea of camping on public land was so that, what happens involving alcohol, did not come back on Dakota's parents (the property owners) or should something bad happen, it did not get associated with airsoft as a sport. Now, if you had the impression that one private citizen (event host or not) has the right, or even the ability, to control what another private citizen does on PUBLIC LAND, (while under the influence of alcohol no less) all by themselves, your impression is down right foolish.
If all of you don't feel that an individual is "handling his liquor" in the proper fashion (which since we're talking about a drug, that literally kills brain cells to induce it's high seems an oxymoron to me) then, since we claim to be a community, shouldn't all of us come together and tried to HELP that person? If some members of the community witnessed the theft, shouldn't we have stopped them, AS A COMMUNITY?
Now, myself and my girlfriend left when people started getting rowdy, not because I believe that person is WRONG for being rowdy (because you should be allowed to enjoy your life however you wish in this country) but because it was the wrong scene for us. I did not know about the theft until I read the a.a.r. had I known about it To the time, I can assure you it would not have continued, not because I am associated with the team hosting the event down the road, but because that's what I believe a good member of a community should do.
Now just wondering here, how many of you took the time to say thank you to the property owners? I know that if I owned an amazing piece of property like they do, I would be very very leary about hosting an airsoft game, or any other type of activity that puts that many people in one area with adrenaline pumping. For the simple fact of one lawsuit could mean loosing everything I'd worked for. Yet they did so, and have done so in the past with open arms.
Overall, my girlfriend and I had a great weekend, despite my feelings on how the game itself went, our overall experience was fantastic, that is until I got home to read all the ARRs. It makes me feel as though this is less of a community, and more of a higher achy. Again, not agreeing with the theft whatsoever, but to put that blame on a team, for the failure of one person is wrong in my opinion.
(P.s. on a lighter note, I still cannot get "let's go drink and drive" out of my head, and I would really like to see a YouTube link, or at least lyrics posted somewhere, pretty pretty please?)

Note that this isn't meant as another post to criticize Ogre, I just disagree with the above.
Even though there was not an admission cost, a lot of us paid a lot of money for gas to get there. For example I paid >$50 and drove ~5 hours round trip. So although the host didn't get paid, for many of us it was not "free". Had their been an admission I wouldn't have shown up and I know I'm not the only one. I believe this was free because the host had issues in the past and left a bad impression. Now this was his second (third?) chance to do things right. So, I will agree that we can give him some points for putting in the effort to host a game with no return, we still have a right to pass judgement based on our experience.
In regards to "handling his liquor" I think I have authority to speak on this matter because I am one who generally does not handle my liquor. After nearly getting my ass beat by a pit boss in Vegas and one particularly embarrassing new years eve I know that I can't drink straight liquor because I get too aggressive with the shots and next thing I know I'm completely piss drunk. So I haven't drank anything other than beer in two years. This is what "handling your liquor" means. It means knowing your limits.
The drunk kids may have been on public land, but who invited them? If you invited a bunch of idiots to the event then that looks bad on you. Even more so if you invite underage people to a place where you know there will be drinking. I have friends that are underage and I let them drink in my house. Curiously, not once have they ever gone spring break crazy and smashed shit. If they did they wouldn't be invited back. The point is that I sincerely doubt this is the first time these kids have gotten out of control while drinking. So assuming that's true and... really even if it isn't, inviting underage kids to a camp with alcohol is not going to leave a good impression.
Now one thing that I think you may not understand is that the actions of any individual who is a part of a team reflect upon said team. When all the shit went down with Troub and I (which for the record was partly my own fault), in my eyes it reflected on RAGE. Was that an accurate assessment? No, but if I don't know the rest of the team personally, is it not fair to assume that, "birds of a feather flock together"? If I started cheating while playing how long do you think before my has a reputation for cheating even if all the other members play fair? It is your responsibility as a team to associate with people you can trust, and who you think will best represent your team. If you just let anyone represent your team this is what happens.

Either way it doesn't matter, it's all water under the bridge at this point. Gavin has been kicked, another teammate put on a 3 event probationary period, and the OCAA has been dissolved as an event hosting organization by majority vote.
As far as the reason I host free, its pretty much like muskrat stated. I do it because I can. Airsoft is already an expensive sport, our model has always been to do as much as we can with what we had.
Yes I fucked up and I realize that. Hosting has been a blast but I just haven't been as into it as I used to. Gonna stick to attending Events for now. I'm a nice guy, just not the perfect event host.

Shit happens man. I don't think most will hold it against you. When you're young you do stupid and/or irresponsible things. Lord knows I've done my fair share, that's why I try not to hold grudges and hope that others extend the same courtesy. Life is about learning from mistakes, if you can come away from the event having learned something then your one step further.
