I recently purchased a KWA KM16BR which otherwise functions great; As of lately when the selector is moved from safe to semi-automatic, the trigger does not unlock, "lock" as in what one would expect from the safe detent. When the selector is moved forward past semi-automatic the trigger does then unlock and stays unlocked when moved back from automatic to semi automatic, but then locks back up when put on safe with the problem resetting itself.
I do my own gunsmithing on my real steel, so I don't mind learning or getting my hands dirty, but I have absolutely no experience with the workings of an airsoft gun. I called the only shop I could find around the area, which was Commando's Airsoft in Warren, but the man who answered the phone barely spoke English and relaying what a man told me at the last match I attended I said I might have a slipped selector plate with his response being "...What does that mean?"
Any ideas or possible solutions?

Would probably be worth checking: -selector switch, make sure it is not loose or internally the rotation part doesn't move separate from the external bit of the selector switch. -selector plate, make sure it is cracked or anything is off track. (It has it's own little track it slides along) It should push the safety lever which is on the front if the gearbox. -safety lever, make sure it isn't broken or very stiff to move, and that the spring engages.
Those are the things I would check with out getting into the gearbox. Though you do need to get the gearbox out of the body to inspect these items. Disassembly videos can be found on YouTube, and make sure to look up KWA specific as it is different than other brands.
Edit: Slightly different. Not too much so though. X is right.

I don't think KWA dis-assembly is any different than most M4s. 1) Remove the stock there is a screw which goes into the back of the gearbox, remove it. On the full stock I believe it's a really long screw on the back. I have the LE stock so I'm not 100% sure. 2) Pull out the pins that hold the upper and lower receiver together, again like a real AR, but these come completely out. 4) Push the upper reciever forward and up to separate the two halves. 5) Remove the the screws which hold the motor plate in the pistol grip. 6) Remove the motor 7) Remove two screws at the top of the pistol grip and remove the pistol grip from the lower 8) Remove the pin that's in the middle of the lower receiver (there's only one pin) 9) Remove the very small screw on the magazine release (right side) and remove the magazine release. 10) You might be able to remove the gearbox at this point. If it is getting caught at the air nozzle (this is the tube at the front of the gearbox) remove the feed tube which has two screws just below it. At this point you should be able to remove the gearbox, but you will still probably have wiring to deal with. I'm not sure how KWA wires things to the rear on the full stock version. It probably won't matter though. You should be able to remove the gearbox enough to see what's going on. EDIT: Ah I just realize this is from a week ago. Well maybe this will help someone else.
