So I have been working on a DMR project and I picked up a Modify Flat Hop bucking and nub package. What range increase should I be expecting from it? I've heard it can extend your range anywhere from an extra 40-60 feet and is actually comparable to standard R-Hop, when you start getting into the IR and ER-Hops I have heard that's when you start seeing a big difference in range. I'm not sure how accurate any of that is so I am throwing this question out on the forums in the hopes someone has rand both set ups at one point and time and can give me accurate information on what I should be expecting. I am running an Echo1 M16 with a 6.03 tightbore, with flat hop and is pushing about 380 fps.

In theory the r hop may get you an extra few feet of range over the flat hop but I think it will all come down to proper tuning. Either option extends the contact area with the BB but an r hop or er hop will typically give you the greatest amount of contact since it sits directly in the window. In theory more contact means more range, especially when you start getting into really heavy BBs. However it all depends on how much range you really want and how much time you are willing to put in. I would say that with a 400 fps gun you will probably max out at about 250 feet. One other thing to consider is that there is nothing wrong with a slight holdover since that is how real guns are sighted anyways. What sort of range are you currently getting?

With what BBs? You should be using at least .30s.

So is that 170 feet with .25s or .30s? Are you talking overall maximum range, accurate range, or what? My personal goal for the r hop install that I'm working on in my gun is to hit about 225' accurately with bioshot .32s shooting @350 fps w/ .20s. Prior to the r hop install my gun was ranging out to about 180' maximum with a pretty much flat trajectory using just a stock brass barrel, G&G green bucking, and G&G .25s and shooting 358 fps w/ .20s. My r hop is installed but needs some fine tuning since it still overhops .25s and at the time of the install I didn't have any heavier BBs to try out. Now I have a bag of .32s but no time to work on my gun. It'll probably be a month or so before I get back to it but I'll probably end up posting updates in my thread on trigger response. Hopefully this has been a bit helpful though I don't have a whole lot of data to show, but I think you stand to benefit a lot from a proper r hop install if the flat hop is only giving you 170 feet of range on .30s.

While an R-hop or flat hop modification will lead to increased range, you really need to consider your entire set up to get the best performance when it comes to range and accuracy. You'll want to tune your gearbox with the right cylinder/head, piston/head and air nozzle combination to give you the best compression. I've always had Prommy EG 6.03's in most of my guns, but lately I've been leaning more towards using 6.01mmm inner barrels since I've been liking the performance I've been getting with the one I have in one of my guns. Not only that but also having a good hop up chamber, bucking, nub also matters.
To really get the best performance from an R-hop, you should switch over to using an M-nub. Although I haven't myself on two of my R-hopped guns. I've been experimenting with CNC aluminum concave spacers since I use a soft bucking in both of mine.
If you don't plan on increasing the FPS in your gun, an R-hop will work the best but if you plan on increasing your FPS you would want to look into an ER hop which requires modifying your inner barrel.

So I installed the Flat Hop today with relative ease. I'm running the Modify Bucking with the flat hop nub. Before I was getting 170ft max range with .25s with a prommy purple bucking and tigbtbore installed. Now I am getting out to about 210 accurately with .30s, after that the bb's would either drop off fast or vear off course. I think I am getting quite a boost in range. Also noticed a slight fps boost, my Chrono was reading 1.21 joules of energy before now it is 1.23 constant. So I should be right around 390ish now. My consider R-hop Later in my DMR build but for now, this was an extremely cheap and easy and I am happy with the results. Cost me 16 for the package and I only had to spend an hour or so installing and dialing in my hop up, probably less time than that considering I was in the middle another project I was switching back and forth on.
I would recommend this upgrade someone to who isn't experienced teching and doesn't want to play getting R-Hop just right. Doesn't give you the same results, but gets you close.
