Hello Michigan Airsoft, this is my little intro for the forums.
So I'm a combat medic 68w and a paramedic (NREMT-P), did 5 years active and re-uped for the Guard and school. Been big into competitive shooting (3 gun) and have seen a few videos online about using airsoft for cheaper practice. Long story short I bought an Gas rifle M4 style weapon and a M9A1 by the same brand since that is what i normally shoot and they are a blast to plink with. I've seen some of the mil-sim events online and that has me really interested in whats out there, plus one of the VA guys recommend it. So if there's anyone out there willing to show me the ropes I would be grateful.
Also if anyone is interested in CLS/EMT style training or other military/firearm related training for milsim teams or real steel, I've been teaching since I first enlisted and would be more than happy to spread the knowledge and keep myself competent in my own training (the once a month deal doesn't really cut it). I have power point classes saved from my active time so its rather easy to go over and set something up. In addition anyone looking for surplus army gear, i have more TA-50 than i know what to do with, so please take it off my hands. Thanks!

Welcome to the forum. Its always nice to have another vet here, you will fit right in.
My advice though if you are going to play milsim is to switch to an AEG, as good gas mags are expensive as hell, and AEG's tend to be more reliable, unless you are running a P* system.

I'm not entirely sure whats up in northern Michigan for events though there are ranges like the MTC. I've done events at Calhoun county Centerline and Southern Kent club. If you'r serious about it check out the 3 gun nationals website or IDPA sites for information about whats out there.
In regards for the AEG vs Gas guns, I bought the gas because it functions much like an AR-15, the AEG's seem to really lack that ability. Would you consider it better as having one in-case the gas gun goes down? Also I can see the want for one in the winter time though because of using propane.

By Northern Michigan are you considering the UP or just the upper part of the lower peninsula? Also, I would advise getting an AEG in case the gas gun goes down. If you are concerned about realism I would look into the G&G Top Tech electic blow back line, the recoil isn't as much as the Gas guns but it is there. After that I would throw in a flat hop and buy a few mags and you should be good to play any event that comes up.

He had his "realism" worth his GBBR. The whole point of him getting an AEG is for having a reliable gun that will always just work. EBB's just add in more stuff to fall apart that are essentially useless. I definitely agree that he should pick up an AEG, just not with that electronic blow back crap. To answer his question winter is harsh on propane driven guns. You will run into issues with the gun not cycling as reliable. You won't have as much FPS as you do in summer months, especially in rapids fire situations. In rapid fire situations you will have massive cool down issues leading to excessive wear on parts as well as horrible gas efficiency. You can give it a go, but I would definitely have an AEG there with you. In general though, GBBR's will just not have near as long up time before needing servicing as an AEG. For reference, my KWA AEG has been running strong since 2010 with only cleaning the dust/dirt out of the barrel a couple times. X has done even less maintenance on his during that timeframe. My KJW GBBR is a blast to shoot, but I seldom use it at games due to maintenance and simply having much less ammo on you than everyone else running mid cap or hi cap magazines.

I was referring to the lower peninsula. I have no about the land of the Uppers minus hunting trips. Like I said before, just a quick search for something like "competitive shooting Michigan" in google will lead you to all sorts of organizations around the state.
I appreciate the advice Tank, I clean my GBBR after every use (usually shoot 200-300 rounds) but I can imagine when it gets dirt or dusted it would be worse than my issued M4. I also agree with the standard AEG route, if its not going to cycle a bolt like a Gas gun then why bother, KISS method.

I think I'm the only one insane enough to use GBBR's in cold climates. My KJW M4 Operated in March during 30-40 degrees no problem in semi auto. My Kriss operated exceptionally in the same environment. I now have a Mega Arms MKM that I've used down in the 20's with no issue. I don't mind being out bb'd by other players. It keeps me grounded knowing that I don't have a sewing machine with thousands of bb's. Because of that I can make 6 magazines with 40 rounds in them last for hours and still be effective at what I do. Besides 1 or 2 well placed shots will knock a player out pretty damn fast.
Also: I'm not a NREMT-P But I am an NREMT. Do you know of any good TCCC Certifications in Southern Michigan? What kind of gear do you have? I may be interested.

TCCC certs are generally refereed to as TEMS or Tactical EMS for civilian side. If you don't plan on working with a tactical unit ie SRT/SWAT then PHTLS courses are better suited for general paramedical work. TCCC doesn't directly translate necessarily to EMT-B due to the skill set difference for 68w or corpsman and the civilian counter part. Do you work with a Fire or Police unit? If so I would simply go up your CoC and ask there because that's where your funding will come from for the easiest, otherwise some classes can be expensive and have pre-requisite requirements. Feel free to PM/email me more about this.
As for the equipment I have, its extensive. Lots of Aid Bags if that interests you. I have an M9 and a London Bridge truck bag, also good old army issue clam shell molle bag that I could part with. Beyond that a bunch of pouches and gear, random weapon stuff (all AR-15, AR-10 style), lots of ACU uniforms M-R size. I would have to go through it all again to know exactly what I got, are you looking for something in particular?

Mind providing a pic of the clam shell bag? I might be interested. Thank you for your service, by the way.
