Hey guys, I have taken up sniping and I want a sidearm I can use for CQB as well that is NOT a pistol with a carbine kit.
That now leads me to this. I am sure we have all wandered through the airsoft section at Dunhams and seen the Umarex Navy Seal lpaeg mp5. Well I am debating doing a 50 or 75 dollar a week budget build for it to try and make it skirmishable.
What are your guys opinions? Do you guys think it will work? Any input would be much appreciated, Thanks

Save up for a couple weeks and pick up a real AEG. If you can find them, I've heard JG's are pretty good stock. The amount of money you'd spend just making the gun skirmishble and reliable will be well over the cost of most used mp5's. Not to mention, if your mp5 breaks, it's actually fixable. My recommendation: Click me.For another 50-75 dollars, this will last a hell of a lot longer.

I have as of recently broken down an lpaeg Mp5, and it's not worth the money. There is extremely little to no room for upgrades with out major modification, such as fabricating new parts and reformatting the shell.
It would be much worth your time and money to just get a Galaxy MP5k or other cheap mp5 AEG ad work off of that.
A little look at my experiences: The MP5 I diagnosed took 6 AA batteries, or had an alternative for like a JST connection or something. The gun was also duel power, so the internals were very very unique. The internals were very comparable to that of a springer, but with gears/motor/wiring for it to be powered otherwise. As for things I could do, might be shim, port the 'piston' head, stretch the O-ring, and maybe grease the system. The grease already there was almost like glue and was just horrible. Also, all the internals were plastic, as to be expected with an lpaeg. The motor was closest to that of an MP7 AEP or Scorpion AEP.
But yeah, in my opinion, get something with some bit of decent quality(not lpaeg) and which has common parts so you can build it up to what you want it to be.

Don't do it.
A Galaxy MP5 is well within your budget, and performs very well out of the box.

I took apart an lpaeg MP5 that was built similar to a regular AEG except the entire body was two pieces that split in half, the gearbox shell was made of plastic, and all the gears were made of plastic. Oh wait, that sounds nothing like an AEG at all. It didn't really appear there was any way to get a standard motor or gearbox in it.
The specimen I took apart had the entire front of the gearbox shell cracked off. I was told it saw very little action before this happened.
If you do buy an lpaeg MP5, I wouldn't expect it to last much longer than a few games.

JG's work well, galaxys work well, and G&G's work fantastically.

It is my experience, not just in airsoft but in life, that generally if you try to cheap out on things with the idea that you will fix/improve them to where you want down the road, you will only end up spending more money and being less satisfied. Even if you are extremely mechanically inclined and have access to the machinery and materials you would need to fabricate the parts to make an LPEG work as well as a normal AEG, I still wouldn't bother when you could literally save up for just a little longer and buy something more than twice as good as what you were looking at prior.

G&G MP5, tightbore, and flat hop. Build complete.

G&G MP5, tightbore, and flat hop. Build complete. The stock barrel is pretty sweet on my G&G. With an R-hop, stock bucking shaved, and stock hopup I've made some pretty impressive shots. I recently just upgraded the wire harness to a G&P harness and I installed a high torque motor. With the stock spring the ROF is pretty impressive, and the trigger response is nearly instant. Switching over to the heavy wire, deans connector, and high torque motor seems to fix my problem with the gun not responding well to fast semi-auto fire.

I was assuming by Budget build that he wasn't going to be doing any upgrading when it came to the motor. He's up gaylord (I think), so I was thinking sending to someone to get it R-Hop'd would be out of the question as well. Unless Deputy does R-Hop, which I believe he doesn't, he sent his DMR to Alaska to get R-hop'd. Are the stock barrels on the G&G MP5 good? I know the CM's suck when it comes to barrel quality.

The stock barrel is fairly heavy brass. I believe it is a 6.04mm. The machining on it was very nice. My MP5 is the last of the G&G's before it went to Umarex. The internals looked a bit nicer than the combat machines I've taken apart.
I believe mine is the PM5a4 model.

I had a REAPs and stock barrel and it is still the best range I ever got out of a gun.
