I've been wanting to make my CYMA tactical RIS AK-47 into a support gun. Is it as easy as putting on a bipod and drum mag and going out or should I upgrade the internals so I don't strip my gears or something?

Why would adding a drum magazine and bipod strip your internals? I think I get what you were trying to say. If you want a setup that slings a ridiculous amount of plastic then yes upgrades will need to be done to your gearbox and motor etc... Good luck though, sounds like a cool idea.

If you plan to use it in a support role (extended periods of full auto) you will definitely benefit from a tune up, including correcting the Angle of Engagement, shimming, adjusting motor height, radius the gearbox shell, and regrease will help with the longevity of the internals so that it can withstand the extended firing. Those things I would say would be very basic, but you could do a lot more things to increase the rate of fire and other things.

There is almost always something that can be upgraded or replaced when it comes to internals, just due to wear and tear or stock parts. As for my own opinion, I don't like the look of rifles being turned into LMGs. I feel like if you want to have a LMG or be a support gunner, it would be better to have a actual LMG styled gun. Plus the weight and configurations between LMGs and rifles are typically different from each other. I'd consider looking at something like a M249, 240b, M60, PKM, ect. It will make you feel your role change rather then just notice the increased magazine capacity.

It is also worth noting that not all hosts will allow you to use a regular rifle as a support weapon. Most serious games will require that you use a real world support model if you plan on using a drum mag. Does your AK have 4 screws on the bottom, 2 in the back of the mag well and 2 just behind it? If so you could potentially swap your front end for an RPK front end. You wouldn't have the right stock though. Something to look into I supposed.

But thanks for the help.

Not true. You can pick up an A&K for relatively cheap now-a-days. M249 MK II or M249 Para are examples.

HEY HEY HEY! I actually just found this an hour and a half ago, but here you are. It seems LCT makes a lot of different AK-styled conversion kits that fit TM-compatible gearboxes and magazines. Don't be fooled by the whole "you have to have an LCT to use the LCT conversion kits" stuff. You can put CYMA, DBoys, Echo1, whatever you want into one of these (I think) CYMA for SURE though. I want one too. They also sell the individual kit parts (barrels, recievers, pistol grips etc.) If you're just looking for one or two adjustments at a time. www.foxairsoft.com/search.php?search_query=lct+conversion+kit&x=0&y=0There are 2 RPK ones on the first page, and another one (black) on the second page. They might be high in the price range, but definitely worth the look. Another plus, is that if you get tired of using an RPK, you can slip the RIS kit back on! CHEERS and good luck!

For the price of an M249 from A&K he could have one of those kits I suppose, but I'd rather have two guns then rely just on one if I'm on a budget. Especially if one is being "hammered" on as an LMG. Then if the M249 breaks he has a backup gun at least. Very nice find though.
(Granted he would still have to get an AK drum magazine with one of those kits. For $350 + the price of a Drum Mag he could almost have two M249's.)

Damn, Gunny beat me to it. But they also have a version with steel receiver (if it means that much to you). It sits at $280 due to the increased price of the materials, aside from that they are identical from what I can tell. www.evike.com/products/46346/
