Lately I've been reading, playing, and watching a lot of post-apocalyptic themed books, games and shows. All these moments from books like the Patriots series by James Wesley Rawles (awesome books by the way), games like The Last of Us and Tom Clancy's The Division(not out yet but the gameplay looks cool), and shows like The Walking Dead and Book of Eli started to make me think, "Why hasn't anyone done this in airsoft?" I spent a few minutes on YouTube and found all these post-apocalyptic themed games. Operation Revalations in Virginia was full of objectives to barter for and fighting between brigands and survivors. An op out in the Pacific Northwest had American militiamen fighting off the UN. I think, with the right amount of planning, this would be a great event in Michigan. I don't know the details of where or how this idea could be done in Michigan per se, or even if it would be popular, but the whole concept intrigued me. Any thoughts?

Well what about (scenario wise) a fight for who controls one of the largest freshwater supplies in the world by controlling the state itself. (Just kind of a thought on scenario) but to my knowledge Outlaw Company ran a game that was themed post apocalypse called Op: Fallout and from what I heard it went fantastic.

This has been done in Michigan. Probably the largest MISLM organization (Lion Claws), hosted Operation Northern Lights in Trenton at the steel mill. The theme of these events were post-America rebel fighting.
Around halloween we hosted a zombie virus based game at No Limits in Taylor.
It actually seems to be a fairly popular theme for games. I have seen it a lot, and there will be plenty more games with the same premise.
If you are interested in zombie MILSIM, take the time to write up a good story line and pitch it to somebody who hosts games regularly.

Zombie games sound fun, but Revelations down at Ballahack in VA is really what sounds like a true post apocalyptic game. 30 years after society breaks down and a colony is fighting to survive against a looter army, or like the op on the West coast, defending the US after the UN tries to take over, taking loot from the US to cover the deficit. That would be an op I'd sign up for in a heartbeat,
EDIT: Now I feel stupid for not researching the only Lion Claws op relatively close to me beyond the fact that it's in Michigan.

Agreed, this has been done.
It would be really neat if someone hosted a more immersive post-apocalypse game though. Here's a video of a STALKER airsoft game (Not exactly "post apocalyptic" but close) that incorporates dynamic opposing factions competing for territory over a solid week (or longer)/
The video shows the daily occurrences at one faction's camp, the monetary/barter system, patrols, friendly patrols interacting with a group leader; generally really immersive stuff that would be great to see at post-apocalyptic game. Too bad the energy and costs to host such a game would probably be enormous.

That video shows an adequate amount of smoking and joking for freedomers.
While the SEMAP 'Fallout' event was labeled as post-apocalyptic I'd be hard pressed to actually give it that description; there just wasn't enough to separate it from your standard scenario events. It did go quite well, just wasn't that envelope-pushing.
Northern Light can keep the title of post-apocalyptic but isn't truely organic to Michigan... plus we were not allowed to play in the rain, and endless rain is about as end-of-the-world as it gets (besides barren deserts and industrial remains that we obviously DID have)
I don't think any of our standing fields would be up to the task of properly supporting an event such as this. Having room to get around and avoid contact with obvious threats (since there is often a lack of ammo involved) plays a big part. You also need to have space to set up camps for all factions, ideally with enough room that they will not be getting hit with sustained, respawning strikes all night long (rather, more deliberate raids if anything). That means more than one acre per player. If the steel mill were more overgrown with shrubbery, and the obnoxious long empty buildings were closed off (which also removes the real-world danger zones), it could actually make a very good location for such a game.
A majority of post-apocalypse scenarios involve mutants and other such non-human characters that would need admin support to portray. The roleplayer cult at NL falls along this category; to build the world as something more than merely two armies crashing, you need a lot of third parties. We, as a community, are just beginning to be truly adept at this component of gameplay. As well, fully developing the scenario should really take at least a 24 hour uninterrupted period to have survival skills play some role - roasting up some kind of animal over a cook fire is part of the mood. Really, the amount of initiative from players that would be required to have everything actually get done would be the limiting factor - admins would not be able to babysit and preside over every situation, even with a large team thereof.
It's not impossible, though.

One of the problems would be that a real post apoc game would require a certian level of commitment to the gear and weapons present. When I think post apoc I don't think full tune M4 Block II rifles or rigged up Masada ACRs. I think barely cobbled togather M14s, older M16 and early CAR15s, mostly pistols shotguns and hunting rifles.
Just some of my thoughts on the matter.

To add to that, I think of people barely scraping together a mag full of ammo, but yet there will be the couple of people that sneak onto the field with high caps even though mids and a strict ammo restriction is in place. There is always somebody at a MILSIM who only has highcaps.

So Yankee and P.K. have been hosting really great post-apocalyptic themed events over the years. If there's anyone that can plan a good one, it's Yankee and P.K. And they have used concepts where people start with limited ammo. And have to complete objectives or find ammo crates on the field that have bags of bb's that can be used. He's also made everyone start out only being able to use semi auto only. And if you complete an objective or find a part on the field, then you unlock full auto.

I suppose I can chime in. As Gunny87 said, myself and Gasmask have done this a few times.
Our first goal is doing new things. New game mechanics and objectives that people usually don't have to do. I remember Gunny87 along with a few otehrs spending all day doing chores for role players and gathering equipment in an attempt to recover a nuclear warhead that was still armed. They then had to follow proper instructions to disarm, then disassemble. We've also done other things. We've used caps as currency in game before, so that to get a mechanic to make your gun full auto, to get a medpack, hire a mercenary you needed cash.
The other thing that we do is not to worry about having 2 big teams, or whatever. We did one with 5 teams of 4-5, one with 3 large teams, and one with 2 large teams and a small 5 person team.
However, to me the most important aspect is setting the atmosphere. Props, props, and more props. Role players are also important in our games. Instead of having them be static objectives, they are part of the game. They move around, they fight, they have jobs we give them pre-game and that's what they do. Player dedication to this is hard, however we've had success with civi vs mismatched camo, with the small special teams having designated uniforms like M81. You can build the backstory to fit use of uniforms however you see fit.
I've really been wanting to do one of these again, so if there was some serious interest here I'd be willing to write and host it.

I've wanted to do an in-depth game like this before.
Just as long as its not a zombie game at eastside.

I can say with 100% confidence, no game hosted by SK will be at eastside.

Well what about (scenario wise) a fight for who controls one of the largest freshwater supplies in the world by controlling the state itself. Taking my own direction with this but has there ever been a state-wide event series? Where various teams from across the state put on their own event (one after the other) that piggybacks off of what happens at the previous event hosted by another team? I know this is done with single events that happen yearly, but I feel like it would be fun (although probably difficult) to organize a statewide thing. Players would attend whatever event(s) is closest to them and then end up routing (sp?) for whichever team the played for as the event moves around. One team would then ultimately "control" the state and the freshwater supply. Maybe i'm thinking in impossibilities but this just popped into my head so I thought I would post it.

All of these sound so amazing and I have some ideas for scenario types but I feel like the field would need to be gigantic in order for it to be played well. Along with it being a multi-day event.
