Does anyone happen to know if it would be possible to mount a different brand upper receiver onto a G&G GR16 lower receiver? For example, mount a CA M4 upper onto a GR16 lower?

You might be able to, but there will almost guaranteed be sizing issues. You might be able to dremel it to fit, but I wouldn't take the risk. Why do you ask?

Gabriel is right, there would most likely be sizing problems that would need to be corrected. I would say use the same brand for both the upper and lower receivers, especially if you want to reduce excess play between the receivers.

Ahh ok. I was just wondering because I have a full size M16, and I have gotten into cqb more,, so I was looking to get a second shorter upper to swap out. That way I could keep one platform that I could use for both cqb and field. I'm not looking to spend much money and I have found some uppers from different brands for cheaper than a new one from G&G.

Building a second upper is easy, switching between the two is even easier. The thing I would be weary of is the FPS for a indoor setting. I'm assuming it has about a m120 spring in it which is way over the indoor/CQB limits on almost any field. But then if you change certain things in your gearbox you could become under-compressed for the m16 upper. Watch this thread because it is going over the same problem I'm telling you about, just in reverse.

Yeah that's my plan, I am just trying to find the right parts. I've got my original one apart right now just so I could see the parts. I can't get the outer barrel off though.
And I actually had it at airsoft kalamazoo this past weekend and it was really underpowered for some reason. I think it chrono'd at 145 FPS with .25's. I need to get that sorted out as well, I don't know what's wrong with it.

Personally, if you chrono'd in at 145 then I'd put your money into building a new custom gearbox.

You most likely have a compression issue. Did you play with it internally? For as cheap as G&G CM's are, you could always just pick up a CQB variant instead of dealing with different uppers and all that jazz, plus a backup gun is always nice.

I have not opened it up yet, I don't want to break anything haha. What part would need replacing?
And I don't have the money to drop on a new gun as of right now, I'd like to see if i can fix this one and make it work. Either that or maybe someone will make me an offer on it, it is listed on my commerce thread. Then I could pick up something else.
