First off, I think a special "thank you" is in order for Ogre and his family who not only hosted another FREE event but also welcomed all players into their home again. I'd also like to mention that while Ogre himself was unable to play this event still preceded as planned! As usual I was unable to stay for the entirely of the event and only was there for the first 6-7 hours, so this is my report based on that time.
PROS: -> This event had a lot of effort put into improving it over its predecessors. -> There was clear intent to enforce MiA rules and etiquette. -> Ogre's family acted as Refs and did a darn good job; I always saw them at the major engagements and they were never directly in the way. -> Very limited amounts of cheating and unsportsmanlike behavior. -> Good amount of playtime before dinner break. -> Clear thought and effort was put forth into planing and scheduling. -> Was very happy to see how good/equal female and younger players were treated at this event. Can't be sure, since I am neither of these things, but maybe someone who is could give their opinion.
CONS: -> Schedules weren't followed perfectly; but considering everything, this was not problematic in the slightest. -> Collecting the 100 wood block objective was not only repetitive but slightly demeaning. It could have easily been just 30/40/50 blocks, 10 large crates, 30 blocks at different objectives; but the simple fact is that nobody wanted to be "that guy" who had to do it because it was an annoying objective. Everyone is here for enjoyment and it just seemed too much like a hardcore milsim objective for the casual players who attended this OP. -> Not a big fan of the points system, would have preferred objective based without the point values. -> Pirate Radio station was a cool use of Dark Shores idea, but it fell apart later in the game. With some more work and planning it could be a good game-play twist.
COMMENTS: -> Lots of really great northern Michigan guys and gals attended this event. Created a very friendly and welcoming atmosphere. -> Weather turned out to be great. -> Teams balanced well despite what the roster says. -> Kudus to M.I.S.T.; they may be new to the scene but they were a lot of fun to play with and appeared to show good sportsmanship. Best of luck with getting your sponsorship and I hope to play with you'all again! -> There were several individuals that reported someone that was shooting WAYYYY to hot. Can't confirm for myself but multiple accounts say the gun shot through a BDU shit at mid range. If you are this person and this is the case, then all shame be on you for intentionally endangering other players.
Overall, this event had some extremely topnotch game-play thanks to the hosts and players! Thankyou so much Ogre, I cannot wait for your next event.

I love to host them and we will continue to improve wherever we can, the radio thing didn't work due to Alex's radio not being fully charged, that honestly should have been done the night before, not 2 hours prior, but hey we tried something new, we will perfect it next game. I'm glad everyone had fun and the game went smoothly, as I was never too informed on what was happening while I was broadcasting. Also I'm a little disappointed Gimp couldn't make it though, but I understand his issue, nevertheless he's fun to have around and look forward to him attending the next game.

I'm bummed that I couldn't make it out, but life happens and we've all got "real world" responsibilities.
I'm hoping to be able to make it to the next one, and I'm glad you guys had a great day!

I want to thank the host for doing this.
That said, never, ever again.
For starters, there was no working chrono at this event. If you're going to put on ANY airsoft event with players that you don't know, using gear you don't know, then you MUST have a chrono. One player returned to the respawn with a hole in his camo. I'm not talking like a tear, or a hole with fraying, I'm talking about a clean hole through loose fitting camo. Unacceptable. If that bb would have hit the skin on a players neck, face, or other vulnerable area there could have been serious injuries.
I witnessed players without full seal goggles on, in the field of play, under fire, constantly. One Moderator advised me to remove my goggles while we were under fire to clear fog. Ridiculous. Moderators witnessing people without full seal on without saying anything. Moderators without full seal on. Players firing at people without goggles on during game-off times. Players firing their weapons in no-fire areas. If I want to lose an eye, or see someone lose an eye, I'll go back here. Until I get a morbid fascination with reckless self-endangerment, however, I'm going to pass on future events.
Rules were routinely violated with no regard. Rules were made up on the field by one moderator, and thrown out by others. With no chrono, bang rules were in effect, and yet players engaged well beyond bang limits.
Tan had the "too many chiefs, not enough indians" syndrome. A constant group of 8-10 tan stood around in the hq, just talking. The tan c.o. and his appointed moderator bodyguard seemed unable to grasp the situation and make decisions. I cannot tell you how many times I heard the tan c.o. spending 15 minutes on comms while tan players stood around waiting for orders. The moderator who "bodyguarded" the tan c.o. all day was, in the kindest way I can put it, a dick. Barking out orders, never doing anything. On one occasion, I returned to the respawn, was there about a minute before respawning. For once (only time this occurred to my knowledge) I was the only person aside from the c.o. and mod in the hq. The mod immediately begins shouting at me upon the respawn horn to run and attack a position green has been holding all game (the tower.) I went to reinforce our units at the position, took command of the situation as we had squad strength on a flank where the tower could not easily light us up, as was the case for the 3 hours prior to this. Upon reaching the base of the tower, the entire squad was lined up with guns drawn at the door. I shouted out to the green guys to surrender to avoid close fire, as by now complaints were abound about shooting hot and we were well within bang limits. The green inside told me to fuck off and open the door. They threatened to drop a grenade on me, at point blank. Finally, after an unnecessary back in forth with two guys who had killed dozens and dozens of tan without getting hit, who had spent hours picking tan off from a position that was only vulnerable by hugging the out-of-bounds border, they came out. We both mutually apologized, and played through. The majority of the tan who took the position continued to push forward towards the green hq, and were promptly obliterated. As I had absolutely 0 interest in slaughtering green from a position they could only assault from the kill side. You might be saying, "but Necro, why you no want to kill green easy?" I'll tell you why, because I've got no interest in sitting in a box, spraying bb's out of a window while ricocheted rounds fill the space around me, mercilessly forcing players into a constant respawn cycle. That isn't fun, it's nothing but a ego trip, and I'm going to call those ricochets as hits (and don't even try to tell me green did this, thousands of rounds were put into the tower from multiple angles, there is no way that the people inside did not take ricochets.) I fell back, leaving three tan in and around the tower. The position was lost shortly after that, with green reinforcing their assault from their respawn area just a few meters away. Upon my return to the hq, I got bitched out for leaving the position by the mod. He tried to convince me through yelling to return, while we heard the remaining tan in the tower screaming in pain both over the radio and through the woods.
The field itself was the thickest, most overgrown and poorly maintained place I have ever played. That includes backyards. There were ankle killing holes just outside of hqs. The "paths" were non-existent outside of one main path that led into green territory from the staging area. The easiest way to find the Tan HQ was to walk to the out-of-bounds markers, and follow them for a while until (God willing) you saw a glimpse of cut wood through the brush.
Greens position was impossible to take. I don't understand why I've been to fields where, instead of using topography to lay out the field design, people just open Google maps and draw things on them in paint. Green had a valley in front of them on every side. They were shooting down on us, from both topographically elevated and physically elevated (via buildings, bunkers, etc) positions. And since they could win by holding their positions... there was simply no way tan could win. By the end of the first half of play, green had the tan hq completely surrounded for over thirty minutes. A dozen or so tan simply sat inside the hq, while about eight of us ran the constant respawn cycle, spending a few glorious seconds alive trying to push out. Near the end, frustrated by tan just talking in the hq and not even fighting back the green assault, I don'd the Michigan flag, dropped my gun off, and starting screaming while running into the green guys. I was hoping to inspire tan to, I don't know, maybe play instead of not doing anything. Instead, about a dozen people screamed, and two or three guys broke out to be slaughtered, and the rest continued waiting out the end of play.
People walked away with other peoples gear. We lost two pairs of goggles we lent to people who came unprepared. One guy lost a pistol (unsure if he recovered it) when another tan simply grabbed it and walked off. Multiple people were looking for their battery, or mag, etc. They probably didn't get them back.
Frankly, I was so disgusted by the play, the field, the player conduct, the moderator conduct, etc that I wanted to leave two hours into the match. We stuck it out until halftime out of respect for the game and our fellow tan. I wish I could say that I had fun, that it was a clean, well organized event, worth the price (free) and worth repeating. I simply cannot say that. In the future, major changes would have to be made to draw me back.
I'm sorry to shit on your event, Ogre. You seemed like a cool guy, and it's unfair for you to shoulder blame for the failures that occurred while you were injured and unable to be on the field of play. Outside of a few people, everyone was friendly. A lot of the players were pretty green, and it showed in their attitude and style of play; honestly, not a major complaint, just a reminder to senior players that they have to inspire and lead newbies on the field, or else everyone stays behind cover way too far behind the lines. This is only amplified when one teams respawn is several hundred meters through thick terrain, while the others is only a few dozen. A lot of tan, myself included, were simply worn out by the constant death cycle we found ourselves in.
If you are going to be a moderator at any event, regardless of size or location, hosted on these forums, it is absolutely imperative that you adhere to and enforce the basic safety rules without exception. Every time a players safety is put at risk, you are responsible. If you didn't have your goggles on, and consequently another player didn't have them on, then shame on you. Safety is the only priority, not your comfort, visibility (lift/wipe facing out of bounds with a kill rag on, or leave the field and remedy fog).
Abso-f'n-lutely no shooting in no-fire zones, when the game is off outside of designated test fire areas, or at players when the game is off, and especially when they don't have goggles on. Do you want to be responsible for someone losing vision? If you answered 'yes' or 'that won't happen' gtfo. It can happen, it has happened, it will happen. You're dancing around a puddle of gasoline with a match, and I don't want to be anywhere near you when it inevitably ignites.

You're dancing around a puddle of gasoline with a match, and I don't want to be anywhere near you when it inevitably ignites. /rant I apologized for the lack of Chrono in the briefing, I had mine taken to a computer repair shop to get it up and running, the guy told me that he had it up and running, and had tested it, I payed him the money and thanked him for the repair, and when I went to test it back home, It still wasn't reading right. I tried to obtain a chrono from someone who might have brought one but I was unable too. After talking with my friend Chris, we decided to pool our money together for several decent crono's before the next game. Can you name the moderation who did that in a PM? I have an idea who it was but I wanna make sure before I ream his ass for it. When designing the field I tried to put both HQ's as far away as I could from each other and put them both on hills. I'm also sorry for the lack of noticeable trails as well, They are easier to notice in the summer when you can spot clearings in the tree line, but when all the leaves are gone it is difficult. Also a storm came through a few days prior and destroyed a lot of structures, we had to do quick fixes on a lot of stuff and that caught us off guard, instead of money being spent to mark trails it was spent on nails and other items. II agree with you on players being novice, especially if they were behaving like they were in the tower situation. Fireing in the safe zone is absolutely bs, I cracked down on it whenever I was out side. Thanks for the Feedback, even if it was negative, it will be used to improve things next time around. I had 3 refs on the field, as well as local players acting as mods keeping an eye on their teams. I'm thinking about ending the idea of having local players act as mods if that guy is going to go on that much of a power trip. I hope we can make improvements and possibly draw you back, while Jackal III seemed to have less problems, this one seemed to have more, even with more refs, and it honestly has me more than confused. EDIT: Personally I feel bad about this, had I have been able to be on the field I believe I could have settled a lot of issues in game.

Unfortunately I am going to have to agree with most everything Necr0 posted. I was the guy who had the hole in my combat shirt. I'm not entirely convinced that the gun was shooting too hot, it left a minor mark on my arm that I can barely see now, stings a little still. It did not do anything to my underarmor shirt or long sleeve t-shirt underneath. Maybe the extra layers caused my outer shirt to be tighter and easier to puncture or the extra layers prevented me from getting hurt worse. Don't know for sure but I would've if there was a chrono. In regards to the fiasco at the tower where the greens would not come out. Necr0 I think it was you who informed me I was out of bounds, thanks for that. I completely lost track of the tape and assumed out of bounds was the field. There were tan members threatening to shoot the greens if they didn't come out (less than 20'). That was unacceptable and that is where I called my day. Hindsight we should have radioed a ref/mod to come over and work it out. There were two green members specifically at the tower by the sand bags brush cover that seemed to have a very hard time calling shots. Other then those two I thought the green team, as well as the tan were honest. A few times when I was up at the house I had a great time bs'ing with various green team members it was very laid back and I enjoyed the comradre. My team were not particularily thrilled with the "too many chiefs" sydrome either (tan side). We opted to do our own thing than listen to that tan CO bodyguard mod who at least was very good at swearing. In fact we thought there were a few tan members who acted like that so we just ignored them. And apparently the bottle of bbs we had at hq for ourselves was there for everyone to use, not cool tan guys that did that. To sum up we should have not even played given the fact there was no chrono. This is the first op I've been to that has not had one and really did not think I would get a hole in my shirt because of it. I won't make that mistake again. Ogre you should have cancelled.

Local player speaking his two cents here.
--Startup This was pretty typical and a reflection of the other games held here. Show up between 9-10 (even though time always indicates 10, I get that many have quite a drive). First few hours are spent unpacking/talking, and everyone's usually ready to go. The chronograph wasn't working, and nobody really chimed up when that was stated during the briefing. The lack of substitute was a disappointment because there were some accounts of a rifle shooting too hot. It's hard to blame the lack of organization when half of Green showed up last-minute, too: it wasn't the host's problem for someone else's timing. However, it did throw the team organization around but things were quickly adapted and we were ready to go. The timing for this event resulted in a turnout of thirty, rather than last game's turnout of 80 which is understandable, considering the dates of the events being held.
--Gameplay The primary objective of the game held here was still designed around the storyline of past Jackal games and built off of Jackal III. However, the mine could have been moved to a new location (past players, including myself, knew where it was off the get-go) and the idea of still only moving one brick at a time was monotonous. With due respect to the platinum bars, a small crate or backpack could have been given Green and designated to carry ten blocks instead of the one, seeing as we had to move all one-hundred. Our idea seemed to work on transporting the bricks, but was also resented by the carriers. Beginning of the game started slow, but picked up for mid-game and late-game was not on equal grounds.
--Hits There were multiple incidents of no hit-calling, but that's typical at any game. The issue seemed more common than it has at past games.
--Personal Opinion As usual, I had fun but it wasn't impressive. Some people looked at me with judgement and condescension due to age (I'm 15) but most everyone was friendly and just wanted to sling some plastic. The chronograph issue was what concerned me most, and the game would work much more smoothly with an objective system while completely removing the points. Secondary objectives were a neat idea, but seemed to make little impact on gameplay this time around. Jackal III, in my opinion, was better because of the steps taken to ensure everyone had fun. People were firing in the no-fire zones towards the evening after many had left. I can't give much negativity towards the field although I'm sure the downstaters are accustomed to the paintball fields. It is still twenty acres of woods and things have changed for the better since the first Jackal, held almost a year and a half ago.

After reading through this thread and the thread for AAR for Jackal III. I agree, we were woefully unprepared for this event, this was caused by multiple things, being injured, work and school took its toll. The quality of this event suffered severely. If I learned a few things it was this. 2 events in one year were easy to handle, trying to host 3 in one year took its toll. Not having a working Chrono for the first time since the first Operation Jackal nearly a year and a half ago. My briefing wasn't prepared ahead of time, as a result I forgot a few things, I didn't mention out of bounds rules, at least I don't think, I didn't explain the medic rules as well as I should have either. I had intentions of checking as they entered the field but I got called in the house for something and by the time I came out people had already left onto the field. Hosting when was injured was a mistake in and of it's self. When I was playing, at-least I could be on the field to settle any disputes that arisen, I was not able to and I feel this impacted game quality severely. The next event will not be taken this lightly, I slipped up on the quality from Jackal III, and I will not make this mistake again. If I scared anyone away from these events I am understanding but I will make every step that I can to ensure that this does not happen again.
