I've recently bought an Echo1 M14. I know there are better M14's out there, but I didn't want to pay out of the butt for the magazines. Anyways, It's a moot point now.
The gun fires 350-400 fps stock, which is (at 350 [in my opinion]), almost pointless as a field rifle. So I'm hoping to throw in an M130 or M135 to give it about 400-450 fps. if it's a consistent 400 fps, I can deal with that.
The only question i have is: can a fully stock Echo1 gearbox and motor handle it? If I need to swap out for a high torque gear set, then so be it. If I need to swap out a spring guide, alright. I'm really trying to avoid swapping out the entire gearbox.
--------------------------
Also, I'll eventually want to upgrade this gun, but I'm finding a large collection of V7 parts impossible to find. What are some websites that have a bunch for moderate to cheap prices?

What I've done is drop in a Guarder SP140 spring, high torque motor, mosfet, and 20C 11.1V lipo and the trigger response is fantastic. While I plan on making permanent semi auto in the future by taking off the selector switch, the full auto function ripps right now. I want to soon find some high torque gears but those are a pain to find for version 7s. Good luck!

That's my problem right now, I don't want an m4/M16, but upgrading anything else = ugh.

Remember that FPS isn't everything. Air seal, proper bb weight, and small hopup mods can get you the range you want without cracking open the gearbox.
My G&G MP5a4 with the stock 6.03 barrel that I r-hopped for a little experiment pulled a 200+ foot confirmed hit at Northern Lights. I have seen plenty of long barrel, high fps setups that can't do that.
edit: Forgot to mention. I chrono'd 295fps with .25bb's. I have never chrono'd it with .20's.

True, but if my math is correct, that plastic BB would have taken nearly 3 seconds to reach it's destination. While that's epic for an mp5... It's not really what I'm looking for.

That would be .67 seconds not factoring in wind and energy loss.
I should also mention that the target was running between cover and I hit the person with a 3 round burst.
I'll take shot consistency over FPS any day.

Well, include air resistance and that nearly triples. With your standard air reseistance it will hit at about ~ 125-150 fps. I can show you my equation if you'd like. It will stay at roughly 300 fps for 25 ft, and then it has 175 ft at 2 fps less each 3-4 feet... I apologize, it should be closer to 2.5. In a perfect environment, I agree. But we live on earth, so it's a lot less ideal. This is all theoretical, but I believe my math is sound.
Edit: i was using the resistance of stagnant air, but it should be closer to 2 even at 200 feet and pretty stabdard conditions. Squirrel, that's an amazing shot. Given a wind at your back or many other situations, my data's way off.

No need to show your work. I've out shot people with a bone stock TM shooting 289 fps. I'd spend more time working on effective range and consistency vs. speed. Less stress on internals and a wider MED. But enough of thread derailing, it's your replica, run it how you want to.

Math only goes so far in airsoft. Everybody knows that airsoft guns run off of 90% magic dust.

Well, I think it's a little closer to 99%. Also, you've helped me out a lot. I'll probably just get the m14 kit on evike and a madbull TBB instead of going straight for a DMRish build. Thanks guys.

Building guns is half the fun in airsoft. If you want to do upgrades, go for it. If you want to make a DMR build, lots of money goes into doing it right.
You'll probably want to push 450fps, semi only, and build a rock solid high torque gearbox.
That being said, there are a lot of much cheaper air seal mods as well as hopup and barrel mods that can be done cheaper than a high torque, high FPS build that will get you very good results.

Well Squirrel, I agree. I got some Teflon tape and I'll ve doing some air seal mods ASAP. I'll prob throw in a high torque gearset or spur and add a more powerful spring by a little bit. I'll be installing a madbull 6.03 as well.

Don't forget a good hopup bucking as well.
