I ugraded my UTG mk96 with the UTG upgrade kit last year, and it ended up breaking my stock trigger box. After doing some research, I learned that this is incredibly common. A friend (username A1) recommended buying a zero trigger, so I ended up getting the action army zero trigger for the type 96, which is currently shipping to me.
I wanted to ask, how should I upgrade from the UTG upgrade kit? I wanted to be shooting at 550 fps when I clock in, but last time I was chronographed, I only reached 360 with .2's.
I've looked into the angel custom's line at evike.com and found a piston that looks like a laylax duplicate, and it's $40. I also wanted to get a SP 190 spring... should my trigger box be able to withstand that kind of tension?
I planned on keeping the spring guide, because it's metal and doesn't need to be upgraded.
Thanks to all who reply!

Go to airsoftsniperforum.com. They have a guide on what you need to upgrade, in the L96, to maximize its performance.

If you really like sniping I would recommend getting a Utg Warrior L96 I own 2 of the and they shoot 450 each and when I give them tune ups they shoot right around 490 and 500 the Utg Warrior L96 snipers are very reliable and have some very good features.

There's a lot of DIY mods that you can/should do. But upgrading the spring, piston, and piston head is always a good idea. Not 100% sure if you need to do anything to the bucking, hop-up, or barrel. Those would probably be good ideas as well to better quality parts (A lot of people get great results I believe getting the PDI APS2 hop-up, new barrel, and better bucking).
That trigger should be fine for any upgrades, they are clones of the much more expensive Laylax Zero triggers, and should do the job the same with higher FPS springs just fine.

The only things you need to upgrade are the things that are not performing to your standards. As long as the entire trigger/piston/cylinder assembly is holding up and giving you airseal then you don't need to upgrade any of that. I would suspect that you probably aren't getting 100% compression so I would recommend that you look up some air seal mods and upgrades.
Aside from that the barrel and hop up assembly will have the most effect on accuracy, so you will probably want to research that as well. I haven't been into boltys in a while, so I can't really say what is hot right now but airsoftsniperforums is a great resource as was already mentioned. Airsoftretreat is also great.
Whatever you do, don't upgrade just for the sake of upgrading. Figure out what characteristics of your current setup don't meet your demands and work from there, and remember that some of the best mods are just simple diys. If you have more specific questions please by all means post away but otherwise it is hard to know where to start with specifics.

I just read this post, so I don't know how much research or upgrades you have done since this post, but I know a bit. Generally they recommend you upgrade your barrel, hop-up unit, and Bucking. Next you need to upgrade your trigger, and the zero trigger is great, Laylax makes the best but I have been looking at Angel Custom as well. I would not recommend Angel Custom springs!!!! They lose power very quickly, don't skimp, go with a laylax spring. Then you can do the piston and guide and cylinder head. I wouldn't recommend just getting an upgrade kit to have as your only upgrade. Like Tank said, go to the sniper forum, they have tons of mods to do to improve your gun! Goodluck!

I would also like to weigh in here. I've had my UTG L96 as a primary now for almost 7 years and have done everything I could think of to squeeze every last drop form it. Some of you know this rifle if you took a shot from Eagle 1 at bangor for Firestorm 3. As will every airsoft weapon platform, the barrel, barrel spacers bucking, nub, BBs, and hop up chamber are the most important thing because they have the most effect on constancy. You might be able to reach out to 400 feet with a rifle that's shooting at 500 FPS but, if you can't even hit your target at 200 feet, then what's the point? Work on consistency first. Secure your barrel, get a perfect seal and consistent air flow through your whole system, Get your hop to perform the exact same every shot, CLEAN YOUR BARREL (And everything else) and if you need to, upgrade parts as you go to get more AFTER you've done all you can. Once you get new parts, start all over again with the work from step one. Getting a rifle that will reach out and touch someone in all sorts of weather at 300+ feet with only one shot is not an easy thing to do and platforms that require that much precision take higher maintenance than any other rifle. But, before all that, please read this: www.globalsecurity.org/military/library/policy/army/fm/23-10/index.htmlIf you can learn and apply all you can from this manual, you'll be able to perform your role better with your stock rifle than 99% of airsofters do even with their super-awesome-geardo tech. Not all of it will apply to airsoft, but a surprising amount of it will. Good luck!
