I can speak for VFC itself, not specifically the SCAR. This is all from my experience, before anyone else rips on my opinions.
I have owned 2 VFC 416s now, and worked on one for a buddy of mine, and I can say they are the BEST external guns you'll get your hands on. The internals are alright, by alright I mean that they're not as good as some other guns come. Such as G&G. The VFC's are extremely compatible with aftermarket parts. They pride themselves in having externals that cannot be matched by other manufactures. If you have the money - VFC is the best gun when it comes to cosmetics. VFC's normally run well, but if you're looking to push the maximum out of any gun - obviously you'll want to upgrade.
And my knock on the internals - don't get me wrong. You can add a nice bucking for 10 dollars or so and a new nubbing and will see leaps and bounds from what it is out of the box. I'll specify what I am knocking on below
Parts in the gearbox that are LIKELY to prematurely break: Piston - It's a clear piston, one steel tooth if I recall right. I stripped mine around 15,000 rounds in, but I was also running a 11.1v LiPo You'd also want to be very careful with VFC's newer self shimming gears, you can really mess your gearbox if you run a super hard battery on it.
The motor is great, and the gears ARE very tough for what they are. But, self shimming gears have had known issues. I am speaking strictly from personal experiences - anyone who disagrees feel free to add to this.
I guess the biggest question is - Are you getting the best value from this gun? Yes, for sure. Great gun, the Pros will out weight the Cons. VFC is a great company, and I would never turn one down. Love them.
Pros: Great externals Good weight to them Will take pretty much any part to my knowledge Best SCAR reproduction I know to this date
Cons: Internals are "meh". They aren't anything super impressive Mags from what I recall from their M4 variants tend to be a tad selective without some modding. Price Tag - hefty for something that you won't be "on par" with other guns.

Damn Arnie's and their 100 posts to view classifieds. I've made a ton of posts over there and only 16 show on my profile.

The guy's forum name is "validtumoralarm." You might be able to find him on another forum under that name and give him a PM.
If any of you guys are interested, and I mean truly interested as in "I have cash now," I will PM him for you and give him your e-mail address and then you can correspond via e-mail.
I am going to be out of the country starting tomorrow though, so this offer has a limited life-span.

I have one. I like it quite a bit. I haven't used it a whole lot yet, so I can't comment on the longevity. My biggest gripe right now is that the stock latch is awful.

Please buy Coletrain's before I do.
I have one being shipped to me later this week. I'll try and post my thoughts on it when I get it.

Thanks for all the replies so far. @gimpalong and Legionnaire, I don't quite have the money to purchase quite yet, so I doubt those particular deals will be around for me unfortunately. hoggie, I'm no gun tech by any means (I've never opened a gearbox, I have nothing else to say), and the SCAR seems to be pretty easy to disassemble and put back together, so I was wondering if it's easy to replace. I also heard that the tappet plate, cylinder, piston, selector plate, and hop-up may also be problematic. So, now I'm wondering if those parts are easy to replace for someone like me. @knife, I'm assuming your problem is keeping it folded?

Keeping it from folding. It practically folds if you tap it. I'm probably gonna attempt to replace it with a real Tango Down one. I haven't heard anything about whether or not those will work.

The SCAR is much harder to assemble and disassemble than an M4 in my opinion. The ambi selector switch makes it a pain in the ass to seperate the gearbox from the lower shell. And after you do that you need an Allen key that is smaller than 1mm in order to seperate the gearbox shell. There is also twice as many screws and little shit like that to keep track of because of the selector switch.
