Puma, I think you misunderstood. I don't own a sniper rifle. I meant that you should get input from guys like Mosin, Livonia, etc. I'm trying to help but realistically I've shot an airsoft sniper rifle twice so I may be totally wrong on what people who actually play that role want to do. I wasn't insulting anyone. I have no idea what guns you own.
To answer a couple questions...
No restriction on guns. You will turn off a lot of people with a $ restriction and how do you prove how much you spent on X part 5 years ago?
Defenders do not score points. They are there to facilitate the competition. This also makes the defenders less likely to cheat.
Surrender rules can be standard airsoft rules.
Localizing the defenders and keeping them from wandering around is a good idea. I think set patrols are good but there shouldn't be just some dude strollin' through the woods.

A squad patrolling a short distance away from the main force wouldn't be a bad idea, but it should only be one or two small squads. Otherwise, the defensive net would be so tight, a worm couldn't even get through.

Agreed I was thinking like a pair of guys that go out on a patrol every 10 minutes.

I think it would be good for the patrol to have a radio to warn the other role players of spotted sniper teams. That would add an extra incentive to not be seen by the patrol.

Alright so far we've got: (tell me if I'm wrong)! OBJECTIVES Kill the HVTs Remain unseen Don't die Don't get ambushed
TEAMS a sniper and a spotter (how many teams?) The defensive role players (I was trying to give motivation for more defense people, that was why I said what I did) The HVTs (human or not) Patrols
GUNS Any sniper, following MIA rules of course Spotters have what kind of guns? And secondaries as well
Agreed, add, etc. Surrender rules

This event I would definitely be down for.

puma: Patrols come from the defensive role player team. They would operate just like any other Milsim player defending an objective, but they have to stay within the appointed area. Anyone on the defending team can patrol, but there can only be so many out there. I guess reffs/moderators would have to keep the patrols from wandering too far by accident, though. Side note: I'd totally be down for being on the defense role-player team.

I'm thinking that the defensive role playing team could be kind of fun as well. Depending on the date that this event gets put together, I'd like to be a part of it.

dallas I know, i just figured it would be easier to point patrols out somewhere. And if were playing on my land we could use color spraypaint to signify the end of a roaming area... So points system? We have A) Kill the HVTs, B) Kill the other sniper teams C) kill the HVT unseen (worth more then just a plain kill)? And D) patrol kills worth anything? My proposed point scheme: A) 20 B) 10 C) 30 D) 5 or no on seen vs unseen? Also where CAN we play, I've got 40 acres or so near Lansing (central to Detroit and kzoo!) EDIT: tank and Rdog, thanks for your interest. I'll start checking my calendar.

Patrol routes and times should not be disclosed to the sniper teams its up to them to observe and figure it out. So painting the routes on the ground would make it too easy for the snipers. A good briefing for the defensive guys should clear up any confusion.
Keep in mind something like this needs to be kept simple to succeed. I've been to enough overly complicated ops to know that much. As such I would not add the seen unseen rules. Imagine your the defender. Did you see a bush or did you see a team? Now imagine the argument that follows between defender and sniper team.
My suggestion is patrol kills would not be worth anything because in the real world the incentive should be to remain undetected. If you kill Joe Schmo and give away your position you're not a very effective sniper are you?
I think you're going to get plenty of interest from more milsim oriented players to play the defense team. Most people don't really care in the end who wins or loses. It's about the experience.

Cool, thanks again. So slash unseen vs seen, and patrol kills. I wasn't planning on drawing on the ground, just marking 'this tree here is the end of your patrol area' and the such.
As for mission briefing, my plans for defense were to give them the positions of the HVTs and what area they can patrol, along with how many can patrol at a time, and to break them up into Alpha Bravo Charlie, etc.
For the snipers, I was only going to give them a map of the land, and send them on there way. The only thing they'd know are how many HVTs there are. This way everything depends on recon and recording data while staying hidden.
Can each sniper team get reset 10 points if they get killed? That would make a huge difference. Also we need respawns for both sides. How many HVTs should we have and where? ( let's say 10 sniper teams) Defenders per base? There's some small issues like that to deal with, but overall we have good objectives (by my standards), and generally good challenges on both sides. Let's keep it rolling guys

puma: From the way you listed the teams, it looked like patrols and defenders were separate forces. By the way, what area is your property in, and about how big?

It's in holt, about 5-10 minutes south of Lansing. If you want the address pm me. And it's about 35-40 acres of usable land. It's a mix of woods, fields and a pretty clumped up pine forest.. Let me try and get a photo up soon

You do two man Scout/Sniper teams, Sniper must have a bolt action, spotter can have whatever he wants. Each sniper gets an envelope that contains a number, this is their "Team number". If that team is shot by another, they stand up, shout their number and go to designated respawn points. The team that shot the first radios over the net "Host, Team 3 has eliminated team 7", they receive two points.
This is just one of the things that keep it interesting, back when I did it I had Madbull and AEX sponsor us, and was able to afford giving out free tightbore barrels and other goodies to top placed contestants. Investing in patches/hats is never a bad idea either. If I can hit at least 50 players in attendance on Operation: G and at least make enough cash to pay the field fees and not have to dig in my own pocket even more so on it, then standby for a Midwest Sniper Cup 2013.
