A few of the Suicide Kings have been kicking around this idea for a little while, and I thought I’d post a feeler thread to gauge interest.
Years ago GK hosted some new player events, to help airsofters just getting into the sport, get a feel for what Milsim and more structured gameplay was like.
We would like to bring this idea back, and use some of the upcoming events at No Limits as an opportunity to try these type events again. Before anyone screams, don’t take away our rec games, that’s not the idea at all. We would still run a normal Rec game, but we would take participating players to another part of the field where we could go over things like squad tactics/movement, communication and anything else someone wanted to run through.
The coolest part of these events (at least in our opinion) is that vets would be able to interact with new/younger players, and those newer players could benefit from the experience of seasoned players. Airsoft at large national events like Northern Lights or OP: Blacksheep is vastly different than what a lot of players will get the chance to experience going to rec games, or even Michigan based Milsims.
In no way am I claiming that MIA’s vets know everything there is to about airsoft, but I know I personally learned a lot from running with more experienced players when I first started out. As a community, there is a vast pool of experience and knowledge that are out there for the taking, and it would be cool to have an opportunity to mentor some of the newer players.
Does this sound at all interesting to anyone, or am I lost in some utopian dream world? (before you make a hippie comment, I am the farthest thing from a flower child you will ever meet)

As one of the people who would be on the learning side of this opportunity, it would be much appreciated and helpful. Also would give newer players in the community such as myself and my team a great chance to meet a vast majority of new people. Great idea!

I am not a "noob", but, I see this as an awesome learning experience! Would we be doing drills or actual combat against an opposing force?

Sounds interesting. If it happens in SE Michigan, I'd be happy to help out any way I can

I think it's a good idea to get people out to the field, nothing is worse than the feeling before your first big rec game. I think it would be cool to get some noobs out there with the vets to show them the ropes.

Zorak, we're thinking of doing it at No Limits. So it's within reach for you if you're in Saline still. I go from Tecumseh myself. We'd love to have one of the oldest members of MiA there. Oldest as in registration date of course It would be a mix of tactics training and actual gameplay for those wondering.

It is awesome to see so many vets are interested in this. I wasn't sure how it would go over.
Our original concern was that a ton of new players would say that they were interested, and then have three people show up. That's why we are planning on having these events tied into the normal REC game at No Limits. If there are players who want to do this, we have the space and vets who are willing to help out. If no one is interested, we still have the 50-80 players who are there to just play airsoft.
Ideally we are looking to do this during the summer months, as this is when more players are attending events.

This is a great idea. Not only would I love to help, it will also be a great learning experience for my son who is just getting into the sport.

Yup, I would be there to help out as well. I have a 12yr old cousin who I just got into the sport last summer so I know he would love this.

Lots of interest, but only 2 people actually showed up. I think having a 2:1 ratio of weird old dudes to new players was counter-productive insofar as we were throwing information at them faster than they could take it in.

Get a roster going and offerprepay?

Thanks, we're trying to plan this out as best we can. Part of the idea in using REC games a base, is the fact that this is first type of organized event a lot of new players attend. So if you're at an event where a good percentage of players can benefit from the opportunity, why not make it available. If anyone is interested in helping out, feel free to shoot me a PM on what areas you'd like to assist/mentor/explain, and I can compile a list. This way we can offer what subjects can be covered, and players can choose what they'd like to work on. It is the end goal to use what players are working on, right there in the field. Let's say you have a group working on small squad tactics. We can have them in a section of the field away from other games, an allow them to work on what they're learning. This way, players don't feel like the paid to come in and sit in a class. You still get to have a fun day of airsoft, but you also get to learn something while you're there. Get a roster going and offerprepay? We already do a roster for our REC games. As far as the new player portion of it, it's kind of an added bonus we would like to offer to newer players. If no one is really interested in that aspect, it's still our normal event that ranges between 50-150 players. If we try to set up a new players ONLY event, we would run the chance of having no one attend, and it would be a waste of an opportunity to have an event the whole community can enjoy.
