Hey guys, been lurking for a while and finally signed up. Lots of reading but I still have a few questions. Hope you can help. Oh, by the way I have searched prior to the asking. Hope no one minds. New to the sport, been interested for a while now, I have a few spring hand guns I mess around with my kids with. I plan on cutting my teeth at: miairsoft.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=events&action=display&thread=45874So here goes the questions - -I have a full set of ACU that were given to me, in my reading, I haven't seen much of them, would they be ok for going to milsim games, etc? would taking these to other game put me on the edge of being unable to stay? -Would I be laughed back to my car for showing up with a weapon like this: www.airsoftmegastore.com/7241-AMS-SRC-Stryke-SR15-A4-RIS-Full-Metal-Gearbox-AEG-Airsoft-Rifle-BLACK-.aspx-I've seen repeatedly about not going cheap on goggles. I have not heard many people speak of full face protection. Is there a reason? Is the eye protection cheap on these units overall? -What is the age range for pick up games like this. Are middle age men uncommon? I have nothing else to say Well, thats about it. Looking forward to some excercise and some fun. Great info on the site too.

Welcome to the boards.
That's a great game to get started at. The field is awesome and the Suicide Kings run a great game. You'll enjoy it.
Your ACUs will be fine. A lot of people use the pattern, as it's standard issue for much of the US Army (though not for too much longer, it sounds like). They'll be fine for any game unless the host specifies otherwise.
You wouldn't be laughed at for that gun, but if you started talking with people about it they might suggest some alternatives. Speaking of, have you bought it already? If not, there are some much better guns out there in the price range and some much better retailers than AirsoftMegastore.
Most players don't wear full face protection, or if they do, they buy their goggles and a face mask separate. You don't want to use mesh to protect your eyes, but it's fine for your face. So you see a lot of guys invest in a nice set of ESS or Bolle goggles and a mesh face mask that doesn't trap heat. You get better protection for your eyes and much better anti-fogging than a paintball mask, and it doesn't prevent you from looking down your sights.
Middle age men are welcome at games. MiA is, in general, an adult oriented community. Most players are in their twenties and thirties with a number in their late teens as well as their 40s. While you won't be in the majority, it won't be just you and a pack of 13 year olds either.
If there's anything else we can help you out with, just say the world. And again, welcome to the boards.

Welcome to MIA.
Dearborn huh? I grew up there myself.
Knief already covered the major points. Another suggestion I have is for you to take a look at the commerce section here. There are a lot of good deals out there especially for those starting out. You just have to know what you are buying and at the very least, you can see and shoot it for yourself if they are in your area prior to buying.
Anyways, welcome. See you at hell survivors. If you have any questions at all, feel free to ask online or in person during the game.

Welcome!
I'm in Garden City myself, so it's nice to have a few more players in the area.
My team and I run the Hell Survivor games, so we look forward to having you come out and play.
Players at most of the REC games range from early teens to upper 40s-50s, so you won't feel like the odd man out. ( I'm 37 myself)
As ARC sated, feel free to ask questions here on the forums, or at events. Most of us take great pride in our gear, and love to show it off/let people check it out.

Welcome!
I too am originally from Dearborn, and am a U of M Dearborn alumnus.
If you haven't picked up that gun that you linked to already, definitely let us know so that we can suggest some better alternatives for you.

Great responses guys. Glad to be so warmly welcomed to the boards, it is reassuring!
I have not purchased any weapon yet, that is within what my wife will let me budget...I have nothing else to say but any suggestions would be great.
I really like the idea of purchasing goggles separate. Never liked full face anything! Seems like going this route offer more options.

The G&G sportline series is a good place to start if you have a lower budget: www.airsoftgi.com/index.php?cPath=139_24_237&sort=2a&page=1Of course you can't go wrong with a Marui but it typically does come with a higher price tag although once in a while a used marui will pop up in the commerce section for a good price.
