I've owned 2 DPMS Panther arms' plastic M4s. They're nothing really special. Plastic everything except for gears, but they last surprisingly long. Mine lasted me about a year and a half each, and this was a plinker/backyard game shooter. Its performed close (but not to the standards of) my stock Combat machine. But as i have also researched, I've heard they are JGs' but rebranded. Im guessing there are better quality ones, but im just going basesd off of what I've owned and what i've heard. Hope this helps any.

DPMS is a manufacturer of real firearms. They have lent their name to a company that imports airsoft guns so that those airsoft guns can be sold using the DPMS name and trademarks. The company that makes the actual airsoft rifle is not DPMS. In reality, the gun is probably made by an Asian company and imported into the US through a second company that rebrands the Asian guns as DPMS. You'll find the same thing going on with guns that are branded H&K or Oberlin Arms, FN Herstal, Sig Sauer, etc. See here ( www.airsoftgi.com/index.php?cPath=139_486). In essence, a US importer licenses the trademarks from these major manufacturers and slaps them onto a wide variety of low end China-made airsoft guns. As Racoon mentioned, some of these guns might be rebranded JG rifles. A lot of the time it's hard to tell who the original manufacturer is. Your best bet is to steer clear from these trademarked, but truly "no name" guns. Don't get suckered in because they are badged as H&K or Armalite or whatever. If you're looking for a more affordable airsoft gun, look at guns made by G&G, Cyma, Dboys or JG. The G&G sportline models are widely held to be the best entry level bang for your buck, although many swear by JG, at least for M4 style rifles. For AKs, Cyma and Dboys make a wide variety of solid, entry level rifles.

Ok the only other thing is i found an CA m4 on Craigslist. Now the guy wants 125 for the gun, a sight, and an extra mag. Its seems a little too good to be true looking at other Classic Army prices. Should i be wary?

Should i be wary? I don't know how new you are to airsoft, but I know if I was new to airsoft and didn't know someone who was skilled at fixing guns then I'd avoid a used airsoft gun. Not because used guns are particularly bad, but it might turn out to be more of a headache than it's worth. DPMS Panther AEG is likely a JG from my experience; I've owned one(JG M4-S) and that was the case. Good gun, I treated it like gold and it worked fine for 4+ years, but I would not jump to recommend it because of its poor external durability. I'm going to second Gimpalong's statement about the G&G Sportline models; not because of personal experience but because you'll probably get a lot of knowledgeable people on here who recommend that to you as a starter gun. If you need more information about the combat machine sportline heres a previous post about them miairsoft.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=aeg&action=display&thread=44657&page=1

The CA that you were looking at may be worth it or may not. It is hard to tell since you don't know him and he isn't on here to see a review about him. I would suggest to put up a "WTB" thread to see what members have for weaponry on here that they would like to sell. It is hard to trust Craigslist sometimes...

Should i be wary? Definitely be wary. As Phantom said, it's hard to say what type of CA this actually is by the information you've provided. A CA Sportline budget model typically retails for $150 or thereabouts, so knocking $25 off that for a used gun isn't great. If you're going to purchase a used gun stick to reputable forums and use your common sense. If it seems too good to be true it probably is, and if the seller is going you shady answers or doesn't respond in a timely fashion that speaks to their ability to actually carry out a sale. Check the classified boards on: MiA Ohio Airsoft Arnie's Airsoft Airsoft Forum (be a little wary).

I know this line has been beaten to death, but seeing as you are in the market for a M4 style rifle; I would suggest a G&G combat machine. They can be had for around $120 off airsoftgi.com. From the guns you have mention this should be within your price range, and G&G in my opinion has had great success with their affordable line of guns.

If you want the best bag for your buck, go with the king arms metal m4. I got mine for 180 last year and it was spanking, excellent internals and full metal body.

Agreed, the only thing that really needs to be done to a Stock Combat Machine is putting in a tightbore and a better Motor (I've had Echo1's that have out preformed the stock motor) Anywho, I went from having a $200 Echo1 M4 to a $120 G&G CM and it out preforms it in almost every way execpt the ROF. You can never go wrong with a G&G.
