I currently own these gloves. At the time they seemed decent. However, they are not very protective from close range fire and I have the the hands to show it. So I'm now in the market for something with a better balance of protection, weight, comfort and cost. The most important of these aspects is protection. My budget is in the range of $50 – $100 though is not fixed. For the right product I could see myself spending more. Looking around some it seems like the best option out there will be light weight kevlar with hard knuckles. I might be completely wrong about that though – thoughts, recommendations and suggestions?

I love my Oakley Pilot gloves. They are the ones with the carbon fiber knuckles. I bought them at the Oakley outlet in Great Lakes Crossing, for half the normal price. Unfortunately I just checked there again today, to see if they still had them, and they said they didn't carry them in the store since people were buying them and then getting in fights with them. Stupid kids screwing things up for the rest of us again.

Thanks Tank. At first I thought they were some type of flight gloves with hard knuckles. I wonder why they're called 2 different things then...

Tank, have you been shot in the hands from say 10 – 20 ft away with those gloves on? If so how are they for protecting the hands in that respect. The reason I ask is because I play in very close quarter environments and am pretty aggressive so my hands always seem to be magnets for bbs. Maybe I'm asking to much though for gloves…

I took a shot to the finger nail last weekend, it wasn't present, but I can't imagine many gloves helping in that situation. I didn't end up with a bruised finger or anything, but it did hurt for a little while. The top of the gloves are slightly padded, but only slight, and not a hard shell by any stretch. The carbon knuckles are important to me. Not because they are carbon, but because they are hard. This protects you from banging your knuckles into things, and I usually find that to be a painful place to get shot at. I can't say that I recall a close quarter shot, to the top of the hand, to compare their performance though.

The materials I keep on running into with higher end gloves are kevlar and nomex. What would be the main difference between those when it comes to Airsoft? I understand that one is more resistent to fire but I don't plan on playing a game in fire any time soon. Would kevlar or nomex be the thicker solution. I would assume that the thicker the material the more padding/protection from BBs. Though the thicker probably the less comfortable/flexible. So hopefully I can find a nice balance between the two. Perhaps something that is part nomex and kevlar. This is all just a guess so please correct me if I'm wrong.

I'll have to throw in my recommendation for the Oakley Pilot gloves. Only thing is they are not very durable. After a few games they will look like they've been through hell and back. Mine are still holding up though, no tears or broken seems yet.

That's what I've been using for a while now, about 8 months for Airsoft and some construction/lumberjack work. I was using these and they were alright: milspecmonkey.com/gloves/mechanix-m-pact-006.jpg but now they feel cheap, less protective with the same dexterity, compared to the Hellstorms.

I have been playing CQB matches nearly every Saturday for about 1.5 years and I have found that even at near point blank ranges, the Under Armour Tactical Gloves www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?products_id=8726 protect every part of my hand (even the smaller knuckles) ridiculously well. Like you, I got sick of knuckle shots that hurt for weeks so I looked for the best protection. Even with heavy use over the past year they only recently tore a little at the wrist strap. They really look bulky, but I assure you they are light-weight and you have full range of motion with your fingers and hands. I will only ever buy these gloves.
