So I'm gonna make a barrel extension for my soc16... Can anyone get me the distance between the gas lock and front sight on a full-barrel M14? And does the flash hider seat against the front sight, or is there any length there?

My camera batteries died just as I snapped the last shot, so the last couple are crappy but they get the point across. Measurements are from a Classic Army full length barrel. I think you misunderstand how the M14 front sight is built. The sight includes the flash hider in one assembly. The sight uses a threaded ring to "trap" the assembly on the threads. The barrel has guide rails in it to keep the sight vertical. Depth of threads. Depth of flash hider opening for the threads. Let me know if you need any more. I also have a G&G full length barrel, and the G&G SOC16 barrel that has those wacky -16 threads.

Thanks buddy!
I did misunderstand how the front sight on the full length is... it's quite different on mine. On the Echo1 soc16, it's another plate in front of the gas lock, held in with the gas lock nut and the barrel. I guess I'm gonna need to do some more engineering if I want a sight on her... I just figured it was pinned like an M16 front post.

Are you just trying to make it a full length version? I'm pretty sure the outer barrels will just swap out.

If you want a full length barrel and want to get rid of the socom length I'd be willing to do a trade.

You guys are awesome =p
Nah, I think I'm just gonna drop a silencer or something on it for now. I was gonna build a barrel extension because.... well, it's just a cut and a bore on the lathe, right? Guess not =p

Socom length with a nice big can looks really nice. Tex had such a pretty M14 socom, someone needs to find those pictures..
