Does anyone know if the standard rail-attached iron sights from the video game Battlefield 3 are based off real iron sights? I really like the way the sight picture looks in-game, and I was hoping someone would know the make. Here's some reference: Also, I'm not positive this is the right section to post this, but since it is a question regarding real things as opposed to just the video game, I think it fits better here than in the "off-topic" thread.

I thought it was a URX too, but other guns use the same sights as well, it's just a flip up front and rear sight from what I gather. I just used this picture because it showed the entire front sight instead of just the post.

That really looks like a ghost ring rear sight intended for a shotgun to me. (rather than a Peep sight with a smaller hole like you'd normally see on a rifle.) It could be just an effect created by the game designers to simulate what your eye does when you look through a peep sight. www.lpasights.com/catalog-shotgun.htmlscroll down a bit, part BAR11W is basically what you're looking for. If you want the dots there are a couple of different options on the same page.

To me it looks like the rear sight is a squashed SR-25 or SCAR sight, and I have no clue for the front.

My guess would be it's a generic sight setup manufactured by the games art department.
Since the gun you're looking at is an MK11 Mod 0 which the game designates as a "sniper rifle." my guess is that the developer just put a generic iron sights set in as an option.
Reading a bit more online it looks like people are saying that a lot of the in-game weapons share this sight setup in cases where the manufacturer doesn't provide iron sights with the rifle in real life.
