At FTF II, I feel that I could have worn hunter orange, and not be seen. I swear green team was blind. I do believe that camo does make a big difference, however, when you're hiding just behind brush. I have ducked down in leafy brush a few times and had people walk within 15 feet of me. Close enough that I had to wait for them to pass and walk a little, for them to be outside my 20 foot MED. That was with plain old M81 at SFOD.
I haven't had the same opportunity yet, with multicam. This is just due to not having played with it, while trees have leaves.

The ONLY time my camo ever made a difference was because I painted my face and stuck vegetation in the helmet once. After that, it's just gunfighting.

I don't understand why people feel the need to argue in favor of enforced camouflage in terms of team and clan guidelines. I understand the uniform concept but I don't think spending time, effort and hard earned money depending on a concept that only shows merit in a real long-range militaristic environment is the best term of action.
A sport like airsoft should be treated in a competition style fashion, when talking gear and uniform. I understand the advantageous of using in-the-shadows long gun tactics in an open field environment, especially when talking minimum engagement.
Anyone not running a long gun should be centered on dominating the space around him/her rather. Allowing the space around you to be taken in a mid-range engagement environment is a break in rhythmic and tactical domination. An action like camping should only be taken into consideration if it gives someone a near momentary tactical advantage.
Relying on a near brainless tactic instead of skill, speed, and accuracy seems to me deeply dishonorable.
I also understand people who so MIL-SIM impressions but don't understand why people dress MIL-SIM while not at an actual MIL-SIM event. There is the cool factor of getting geared up like ones favorite group of military contract operators. I think people have to remember: they dress the way they do because they need to.
But what is important when we talk shop on the sport?
Is cool factor important? I think it might be. If I thought that it wasn't why wouldn't I just play a similar sport like PAINTBALL?
Holding a replica of a real firearm is the focal point in cool factor in airsoft. I would say gear is just icing on the cake. I might be alone here but too much frosting and not enough cake doesn't exactly make for a good cake.
Which brings me to this: I think a good player should bring what he needs and look good doing it.

Maybe I'm just too tired, but I'm having trouble following this. This seemed like a wall of text just to say "Wear what you think is cool/effective"
Yup, I'm lost.

Itto,
This thread wasn't created to tell people how or what to buy to be cool, it was simply to offer a visual guide to different colors and camo combinations.
There had been an influx of threads started about what color gear to get, and I put this together to illustrate the options available and frequently used.

He's not telling you what to wear, just what color combos look good and what you should try to avoid. If you really want to wear cadpat and a denim jacket, nobody is stopping you. He's just trying to give you some advice so you can look your best.
Personally, I think this thread is awesome. I even have it bookmarked.

Whoa hold on, sorry for the confusionAt FTF II, I feel that I could have worn hunter orange, and not be seen. I swear green team was blind. This is just due to not having played with it, while trees have leaves. I was under the impression that this was the threads first post, so was in effect trying to respond to this.

No problem.
The guy I asked about earlier (With the Blackwater Patch and the OD Gear) any idea what kind of tac pants he's wearing?
(I'm sorry if my gear questions are dumb/annoying)

Wow, that was fast. Thanks Pagan.
Edit: Duh, I knew that. Sorry for asking. When I saw it the first time, I thought he was wearing knee pads over pants.

Sorry, I didn't notice I was commenting on the sticky. I wouldn't have mentioned such, in the present, information. My apologies Pagan and ITTO.
