I have found a Russian company that makes functional (Both launching and detonating) 40mm grenades. They go by the name of TAG innovations. Here is a short demo of the system in Russian: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hoap4lEUh9g
Better Vid: www.youtube.com/watch?v=3wm34amx6fk&feature=relatedHere is a winter test of the system (You can see the components better in this one): www.youtube.com/watch?v=FTsIrIWfeoE&feature=player_embedded#! From the looks of it the Madbull shell is rifled on the inside so the grenade would be stable in the air (Kinda like a football). The grenade component is disposable (because it explodes of course) and the shell is reusable. It explodes showering bbs in a "10 meter radius" Also it has an internal fuse. Video here of it being shot out of a thumper and exploding in mid air: www.youtube.com/watch?v=hahPmqGMdFoOver all my biggest question is how would you feel about these in use in Michigan??? Of Course safety guidelines need to be created for a device of this type. But will the Pros be outweighed by the cons?? Personally I would love to have another as ASGI puts it "Game Enhancement Device" They look like they would be a blast (No pun intended) to play with. The thread on Airsoft mortars made me think of these. I had seen them a few months ago on youtube. SOURCE LINKS: (Google Chrome with Russian to English Helps a lot.) Looks to me like it uses pyrotechnics to make the round explode. Which according to the rules we play by is a no no. I'd have to say that if I was in a game and this was shot at me and for whatever reason it blew up square in my face the next thing I'd be doing is finding that person for a swift beating. Don't get me wrong, I love the idea and I think it's really cool, but I just don't think we'll ever be seeing them used in most games in Michigan.

I think that is awesome, but too big to fit in any 40mm pouch, it didn't go into the launcher all the way, and I wouldn't want to run around with CoD fanboys direct impacting people. And does it use pyro to explode?

Like I said special rules need to be created for this type of device. Like a MANDATORY safety class to be done before the game. 18+ Use allowed only. Stuff like that. Especially no direct hits.
As far as the pyrotechnics and round exploding. Its pretty much the same as the dry pea grenades. Like at OP: Fueling the Fire. But it all comes down to the field owner and the Game master's decision on it.
Yes, it uses pyrotechnics to explode. But its self contained, so no fuse lighting or anything.
@ Shanker: The "shell" portion can be left inside the 203 launcher the actual round (exploding bit) can be inserted just before launch. Doing it that way should be reasonably safe since no 203 launcher I know of has a safety.

Explosive, Rifled, propelled charge... This sounds as though this will convert your airsoft M203 into a NFA regulated Destructive Device...
I'd say no...

Was just about to say something about that Kender. I haven't seen him post so I figured it's important. And yeah I would say 100% not a chance. I took a Tornado grenade to the face just being tossed underhand. Exploded right in front of me. If I didn't have a mask on and just goggles. I dare say I would have lost a tooth or two.

Not to mention, why has no one pointed out that the guy peddling this has the silliest looking Russian mullet ever? I lost interest at that alone.

Those probably shouldn't be used in game either, but some hosts aren't as tight on safety as they probably should be. Pyrotechnics are a no-no in airsoft.

There's a fairly good video over on Arnies of some russian guys shooting them out of a CAW launcher. I'll try and dig it up, but the website has been acting weird lately.
Like Bigmack, my first thought was just how illegal these would be over here. They're pretty badass and I'd love to have some but with a license they'd be absurdly expensive and I'm sure hard to get.

Unfortunately this is the reason why airsoft outside of the U.S. is 100x more popular and more entertaining than over here. But judging from the heavy use of non-full seal eye protection is another reason why airsoft isn't as safe as it is over here. I think it's really cool and I agree with Dr. Black. I'd be willing to participate in a game using them if there were strict rules using them like 18+ users only, no direct hits etc. And c'mon guys. If I recall certain people posting in this thread were present at a particular airsoft game over the summer where pyrotechnics were certainly being used. Either as just game props or being fired out of a RPG in game. And they even fired the exploding round at 6 balloons in the first video and non of them popped. Plus if they were built by Russians then you know they are safe... ;D

Yes, it uses pyrotechnics to explode. But its self contained, so no fuse lighting or anything. I wouldn't exactly call that self contained when you see flaming bits coming off the shell in that first video. Seeing as how this is basically designed to be shot at/near someone, I can see someone getting burned extremely easy, or for this to hit someone and explode on their body. Although I don't know exactly how the shell works in conjunction with the grenade payload, I expect it has to act as a projectile at some point before releasing the ejected mass. The shells look pretty robust. If someone gets hit in the head with those, it could cause serious damage like broken teeth, concussions, etc. If someone gets hit directly in the temple, it could kill them. Don't get me wrong, I love technology and stuff like this, but maybe this doesn't really have a place in our games. This is more along the lines of a real grenade, where the person on the receiving end is "supposed" be injured. I think its a great idea, but it would have to be proven safe without a shadow of a doubt. The pyrotechnic release system is a definite no go, but a gas or spring system , in combination with a nerf-like outside would be the way to go on these things. If you want to see what I mean, Airsoft Innovations has been working on the concept for awhile as well. Skip to 1:46 in the video. Their grenade also appears a little "robust". Again, these would have to have some very cushioned foam to be even considered safe (in my opinion). You can't trust someone to not shoot these at someone, or for nobody to ever accidentally walk into one. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ncPQ4dj77v4

Of course I'm joking but they fired it at balloons and none of them popped!!!! How safe can they get??

Punch a balloon as hard as you can and see if it pops. Then punch your friend's face as hard as you can and see if that pops.
