The movie Platoon is, in my opinion, one of the greatest war movies ever made because of how it depicted the Vietnam War. Platoon was also a movie that jumpstarted many careers. Since it is my alltime favorite movie, I am going to create a Platoon based loadout. Now, I am not sure which character I will use as a base in the loadout, but I am leaning towards Charlie Sheen. That being said, what types of gear should I get? So far, I know I need ALICE gear, old school OD green fatigues, and a Vietnam M16. I am not going to use a helmet in this loadout, I am going to take the less traveled road and wear Charlie Sheen's well known red bandanna in Platoon. Can I get some Ideas for other things I need? I know I am missing things and I would rather hear from more experienced Players.
Thanks.

Dang, well, I will most likely try to explain to whoever I am playing with, and explain to the refs, that I am not out when I wear it.

The bandanna is not a good idea or the loadout? I understand what you guys are saying about the bandanna but the I thought the loadout sounds cool.

The red bandanna is the part that is a bad idea. Nobody is going to explain to the players at a game that a red rag is a kill rag, unless you see it on this one guy. Just wear a blue or green bandanna instead.
As for the loadout, just start researching standard issue Vietnam era gear. I briefly toyed with the idea of putting one together a while ago and there are tons of guides out there, as well as a few retailers who specialize in surplus and reproduction pieces to fit the kit perfectly. Just spend some time on Google.

ALICE Gear would be incorrect for a Vietnam loadout. It looks somewhat the same, but it is not. You will need M1956 Load Bearing Gear. It is not usually sold in surplus stores but they usually lurk around them. Most of what you need can be found around the internet, just search around for a while and see what you can find pertaining to M1956 gear. A red bandana would probably not be too good of an idea as they look a lot like killrags and may cause confusion. I would go with a green bandana or the like instead. As for a weapon, I would recommend a G&P M16A1 or a Classic Army M15A1. I have only had experience with the CA, but from what I have heard, the G&P is also solid. What other kind of info do you need towards building your loadout?

If you havent been to this website you should. www.vietnam-airsoft.com/phpBB3/I would rather go with the Elias loadout instead, not only was he the original with the red bandana he also had the XM117. My favorite rifle of all time. Edit. I think I'm wrong actually! Is that a XM117 in the picture below?

Sheen has an M16, Barnes and elias have a XM117, the guy that is the BIGGEST pothead in the movie has an M16, and the guy who has a ponytail has a shotgun.

While those are supposed to be XM177E1s or E2s, they're clearly not. The flash hider is different, and the sport the forward assist of a later model AR, making them 653s. The Colt 653 didn't exist when the movie takes place, so they're the wrong gun for the era. If you want to be Elias or Barnes, you could make yourself a 653 and scoff at people who are telling you that you're doing it wrong. If you want to have an accurate carbine based loadout for Vietnam, you're better off with a replica of the XM177 (not 117, as you and snafu typed. I don't think an XM117 exists, but I might be wrong on that count).
