Also I had actually considered taking out a craigslist ad for industrial building owners looking to make some extra cash for their unused building. I just have to figure out how to word it and how to explain our sport and what they have to deal with before, during, and after.
If any other organizers want to work with me on that feel free to PM me.

Yeah keep it simple and use the paintball cover story only with re-ball so there's no fish oils shit to contend with. and clean up will be conducted by the renter. The farther you stay away from using the term "GUN" the better off you are. they will instantly shut you down.
Then just police your self via event info and rules when it comes to the details them selves.

That's a good idea ARC. Hopefully some property owners will go for it.
And as Gunslinger mentioned, just mention the sport of "airsoft" but without the gun part... I have nothing else to say

I know of two locations that have been vacant for at least 5 years, but have no idea who owns them.
- Kroger at Schoenherr and M-59 in the NW corner
- AMC theatre on Schoenherr just south of M-59

Kmart HQ is located right off Big Beaver (16 mile right?) in Troy. I really don't see us being able to play there knowing the City of Troy. But you never know. Something is going on there though. Because I just drove by Kmart's HQ going to Somerset with the gf just on Sat and there were construction trucks, security and trailers all over the property. We're in the last week of filming for Red Dawn, hence the trucks and my idea to look into playing here.

There's a vacant K-mart building in Benton Harbor in S.W. Michigan. I'll probably drive by it to see if it's for rent and what number to call sometime this weekend, hopefully.

Spotting abandoned and potential buildings are good but I think the better thing for this thread is actually getting some contact info for these buildings. Otherwise I can name about a hundred buildings downtown that are potentials but it doesn't do us much good.

I just sent a text to a guy that my girlfriend is friends with who's father owns a lot of property downtown asking if his father had any vacant property that they would be looking to make a little coin on by renting out for a weekend. And if his dad didn't have any vacant properties but knew of any owners that did and might be interested to get back with me and I'll get you their contact info.

Just to put my two cents in you will have to deal with the owner of the property not a real estate agent. That would be the best way to handle it.

I recently started an indoor cqb in Kalamazoo and I had to jump through a lot of hoops to get there. To make a long story short, I simply cut out the middle man(the real estate agent) and went directly to the source. I to was looking at a K-Mart here in Kalamazoo but I just kept getting the run around.
As far as the Craig List add goes just be very brief in what you want to use the property for and then fill them in with what you want to when you see them in person.
You can also check out your city's redevelopment site. I've actually heard of cities giving buildings away, or selling them for $1 just so they don't have to pay taxes on the property anymore.
Unfortunately I did not get that lucky in Kalamazoo, but hey it's worth a try. I hope this will be helpful to you guys.
