Due to a lack of time and several commitments, I'm really not able to do extensve research on local properties for possible use. I am, however able to throw out ideas based on the various vacancies I see around the area. For example...
- kmart headquarters, plans to raze it are on hold since the city has no money - vacant grocery store on 15 mile and livernois - vacant kmarts anywhere
etc. If anyone has looked into these, please let everyone else know. For example, kmart hq would be pretty expensive, yes, but just how expensive exactly? I appreciate lid's efforts to get us no vacancy, but perhaps a collaborative search effort will yield more locations that would be possible, and awesome, to run through.

Good call psych.
I've also heard that the Detroit schools will be demolishing 12 schools in the next few months. Does anyone have any contacts or know someone who knows someone?
What city is that kmart headuarters located in? I might call on that favor from the city manager who shut us down. Perhaps he might know someone.

Kmart HQ is located right off Big Beaver (16 mile right?) in Troy. I really don't see us being able to play there knowing the City of Troy. But you never know. Something is going on there though. Because I just drove by Kmart's HQ going to Somerset with the gf just on Sat and there were construction trucks, security and trailers all over the property.
I know plenty of vacant properties in the Metro Area, I'll see what I can dig up.

We might open up our family Mini storage to play airsoft, but this would be a ten player max sort of thing since it is quite small.

Don't know anything about it, but there's an apparently vacant movie theater over by the Palace. Don't remember exactly where it was, I was over that way working and remember driving by it several times. Might have been on Brown Rd. in Auburn Hills, but I'll have to see if I can track it down. Unless somebody else knows where it is.

If it's an actual park, like a public park, then that is a very bad place to play, whether you have permission from the police or not. There's a reason we play on private property. One of the main reasons is to help prevent Joe Schmoe from just wandering into the middle of a game and getting hurt. If these are public areas you are playing in, please stop doing so immediately before something bad happens and you screw us all over.

Any one check into the old Studio 28 in Grand Rapids? I know its probably out of the question but the building right behind (1400 28th street west of 131.) it is also vacant right by Frankie V's on 28th street.

It would certainly be a great venue, but I'm not sure how likely the owners are to let us use it. Those steps and slanted floorplans in conjunction with what amount to 6mm plastic ball bearings seem to scream "liability". I'm all for it if the owners can be persuaded though! Maybe invite them along to play? :^)

I have a few spots located in Westland that are all outdoor. Two of them are not huge but the one is enourmus. I have permission from the local law enforcement to be there when we play at these locations. The only down side is the fact that its winter time, but however my team is in the field no matter what the weather is like. The one location that is very large is called holiday park. Its right across the street from Westland mall and trust me its a killer spot. I will also look in to some indoor spots in the area. I know people that know people so I will see what I can come up with. I hate to say this but that is very dangerous for our sport to be using public land. I know you mentioned that you had permission from the local law enforcement but you're still not on solid ground there because those officers do not own that property. You really need a signed document stating that you are allowed to play airsoft on that particular property otherwise like Thor said it could lead to problems and lawsuits for you guys and the property owners which would be the city. Based on experience most of the guys who have been around will not play on a field like that because it's just not a good thing to do and there is way too much risk involved. If something happens this could easily get on the news and be detrimental to our sport. You may say that you have such and such a background and that safety is the number one concern and that all these measures have been taken to prevent anything from happening but I guarantee you that as long as you are playing with humans there is still a large probability of human error which will get us all in trouble. Again as Thor implied, don't screw this up for the rest of us who follow by the rules.

I do understand that Detroit is a fanom. place due to all the run down buildings, but there are quite a few industrial areas around grand rapids also that Ive been noticing there isn't smoke coming from the chimneys any more and hasn't been for years.
I think it would be a good idea to maybe call realistate company's or Realtors and see what we can do from there. I know there are Realtors who have property that they know only a developer might want so it sits in the "cant rent this right now" pile.
I'm just saying there is that option of letting some one else do the foot work who does it for a living, we could contact a Realtor and see if they have any property's in our price range or property's for cheep that are even worth bothering with.
Because even if that market or K-mart is open and up for grabs, if the main company still owns it ( the building) and wants to sit on it and use it for a right off till the time comes to get back in there, that's what they'll do. They wont lose sleep over tax writing off a building for 10 years.
I know allot of the property along the grand river sits empty and the property owners know its worth more than they picked it up for and they still wont get off it. So (?) Just my .02 cents.

Wonder if someone could get a hold of Dutch and check with him? Maybe the real estate company he works for has some buildings they wouldn't mind renting out.
