Wow How long have you had your battery? Sounds like you need a new one. It definitely should NOT be 20 minutes.

Holy crap!!!!!!!!!!! You definitely overcharged it!!!
Aren't you only suppose to charge batteries for like 6-8 hours on regular cheap chargers?

What size battery? (I'm assuming a 600mah mini)
Anyways on the charger assuming you have a cheap wall charger it will list an output(printed on the part that plugs to the wall), this will be listed in mah's. Thats how much mah it outputs in 1 hour. Take your total battery in this case.
600mah/charger output= time to charge(you also should add 15min just for the fact that the charger will *loose* some charge because of it not being perfectly efficient)
Good luck.

Well *if* you overcharged your battery then now charging it correctly will likely not solve any problems. Though when you get a new battery you will know how to make sure this doesn't happen again:) Good luck.

What battery do you think would last longest for my M4?

Well I prefer the kind I've been running in my brother's M4. Which we made so I'm not certain what they are called though I believe they are a nun-chuck. Anyways 2 mini batt's wired in parallel, which gives you 1200mah, and 9.6v or 8.4v will fit. Though you do have to remove the fuse holder, which is about 4 small screws. Then just tape the wires and fuse holder into a mass leave it on top of the outer barrel and shove in the battery.
Luke
EDIT: A single mini on a stock gun should last at least 600 rounds, a good half assed rules of thumb is 1 round per mah.

I have a 9.6 1700 mah numchuck battery.. Thats the most mah I have I seen in an m4a1 grip w/o making a custom battery.

I've used both nunchuck style batteries and V-Shaped batteries in my M4, and was much more pleased with the V (9.6v 1700Mah) than the nunchuck. The battery life was pretty much the same (since voltage and Mah was the same in both battery types) however, to me, the V-shape was infinitely easier to take in and out in a hurry as opposed to the nunchuck style.
All personal preference though.
