Hey guys, I have been looking at this lately and it looks awesome. I used to play paintball, and got out ot if, but this just looks better. Anyway, I have a question about the guns. I have been looking and you see those mini-electrics around for like $25. Are they worth anything? Would they be ok for a starter gun, or are those a whole other ballgame? Just thought I would ask.

personally, i think the mini electrics are horrible for combat. i had to use one for a month and i never got any kills. but they might be a good starter gun. springers are better. of course, my opinion isnt always a good one, because i am a semi-newbie myself. oh well.

Ewwww, minis! Hehe, seriously, if you're only looking to spend around $25 to get a taste of airsoft, I'd say you should go with a full sized spring pistol. There are some good deals to be found on relatively nice springers for good prices, and overall I think they will give you a better impression of airsoft than a mini ever could. Minis are pretty much worthless in my opinion, but if you only want to get one for plinking around and having a little full auto fun, I guess it would be ok. Most minis have pathetic range, so if you want any kind of accuracy and distance, a springer would be your best bet.
By the way, welcome to the wonderful world of airsoft!

Thanks for the welcome and the info guys. Also, what is the difference between the light spring pistols and the heavy spring pistols?

the weight.
the heavies have a lead weight in them to make them feel the real weight... the lights are just...plastic.

Welcome to the MiA forums Stanfosd. Mini electrics, in my opinion, are not a good invesment. If you plan on being a serious airsofter I'de say go with a full sized spring hand gun (I recomend the Baretta 92f). But, like Minky said, if you don't plan on it, and just want to plink around in your basement of backyard, then sure, go for the full auto goodness . I personally would not spend my money, but hey, its all your call.
Well, there my 2 cents worth. ;D

Electrics aren't too bad. Not much good in a game though. They have limited range and not much power. They are pretty good for just shooting things though. 4 AAA batteries will last for weeks.
There's nothing like gas pistols though, a must if you intend to play a game with a pistol. After you get tired of shooting your spring pistol, you may want to invest in a good gas pistol. If then you played a game, then you'd already have a side arm. Don't get a cheap gas gun though, if you do, it'll break and you will end up spending twice as much getting another when you could have just gotten one good one in the first place.
Suprisingly, those litle .25 Colt pistols shoot pretty good. Mine shoots about as good as my regular pistols. They only run around $20 so that's a good cheap gas gun to mess around with.
Never forget ebay! It has everthing you would ever need for airsoft. I got most of my guns there for between 15-50 percent cheaper than at a website store. My KWC M92FS Heavyweight gas gun only cost me $49.

I am looking on ebay and I see a lot of the gas non-blowbacks for like $40, and the gas blowbacks for $80 or so. What is the difference performance wise? Is there any?

I bought a gas non-blowback(berreta 92f non-blowback from http://www.shortyUSA.com) for my first pistol, and it did work well for a while. The only problem was that the valve started leaking because my friend(Ed) dropped it, which I soon then fixed, and the clip has worn out where it doesn't feed bb's as well as it used to. The gun still works, but it still doesn't shoot much further than a springer, stock or used. The plus side to these guns are that they do not use very much gas, and are much cheaper in general if you want to go cheap. But if you want a very good looking gun, these kind of lack in finess, they are a bit cheap and plasticky. It will probably work much better than an electric berreta, but gas will be one extra thing you have to buy.
Gas Blowbacks are a much more reliable and sturdy guns, shooting about twice as fast or more as gas non-blowbacks, and a little more consistent(light trigger pull). These guns are a good investment if you are serious about airsoft. They also give a good realistic kick(blowback slide movement) making it feel and look as if it were the real thing. Also, unlike the non-blowbacks, these guns are more metallic and are detailed and weighted much better, almost like the real thing.
I frankly find gas to be a bitch, limiting myself to one gas gun which still does not work well at cold temperatures. If you would like some more information, go to geocities.com/lkairsoft and you can get some introduction information about our group and airsofting (as well as some kickass video footage).

Minis aren't good at all for battle but they do make a good gun to shoot around with in the basement. There are some really cheap gas non-blowback hanguns on ebay but if you still want a mini I would recommend going to airsoftatlanta.com and get the dual micro uzis. The good thing is unlike the other minis these is 1:1 scale. But they do break very easily. I have two so far both have broken. By the way stanfosd you owe me 15 bucks since I gave you the link (j/k he he he).
