If i was to order an AK-Spetz with a 400fps upgrade, is that going to be legal to get through the importers. The best place price wise i have found is wgc, who seems to have a really good reputation with everyone. What do i need to know and/or not know about getting these into the country legally. Thanks

For any offshore retailers, there's a few guidelines:
1. Don't be fooled by the price. You might be saving $25 on the retail of the gun from an offshore dealer, but you might be spending $45 for a single AEG to be shipped to you.
2. Make sure that they can paint the flash hider the correct shade of orange and 'permanently' cover any trademark violations that might occur. In some cases, trades aren't a problem (Such as later version Classic Army gear which has no copyright violations). I say 'permanently' because you might like to have trademarks on your gun and sometimes they can use flimsy putty that can be chipped away or dissolved.
That's really the bulk of importing airsoft guns to MI. Make sure your retailer has a good rep (WGC does) and a money back guarantee might be handy if things get seized and destroyed anyways (Again, WGC has such a guarantee)
I'm sure I'm forgetting something, though that's only because I always order from US dealers (Airsofttoys.com) and the above are bits of advice that I've picked up from talking and listening to others. ;D

The 400 FPS upgrade doesn't matter. What does matter is you need to have all trademarks removed and orange painted over the front.

As long as the trademarks are covered. And I dont even think the AK's have any trades on them.

No the Spetz doesn't have any trademarks to worry about, as it uses the same receiver as the other full-size AK models. All you'll need to import it safely is the proper orange markings. As has been mentioned, since WGC is in Hong Kong shipping is going to be expensive. Average shipping for an AEG is usually around $50, which brings the overall price very close to what some US based retailers sell at. As for your upgrade plans, check my reply in your other thread.

they very because the 'fps' that's given with the package is dependant on the length of the barrel...longer barrel, more air pushing it longer.
you can get as much as a 30 fps difference 370-430 depending on which gun you're upgrading. you'll be getting under 400 with a spetz.

so a 400 fps package upgrade might only clock at 370?
or do they upgrade it so it clocks at the fps you purchase

I believe most retailers offer a specific package, i.e. a 400 FPS upgrade. They'll always use the same spring/parts, say an M120. The M120 will usually get you right around 400 FPS, but upgrading airsoft guns is never a precise science. You could do the same exact upgrade in 2 of the same model guns and get widely different results. Much of that comes from manufacturing differences, which tend to occur quite a bit in airsoft. A batch of springs might be made slighly weak, a cyclinder might be mis-shapen, o-rings might be different sizes, etc.
So no, they won't tinker with it to get it to exactly 400 FPS. They'll put in the standard parts for their upgrade package. I suppose if you paid extra some retailers would fine tune the FPS. That's another advantage of doing it yourself, you can put in and take out parts at will to get your speed where you want it.

Just a note on overseas upgrades, I have repaired 2 guns from airsoft shop that were sold with 400 fps upgrades and all they did was change the spring, not even the bushings! (bushings "ovaled", gears shredded, ......not good!) I was kinda shocked, because I had heard better things about them. Most of the guns I have had upgraded direct from WGC were done well, but they left some parts stock, that I would have changed out in a basic upgrade. and flame me if you want, but 400 fps, IMO, is a bit much for the stock mechbox, especially if your one of those Dry firing addicts! (repaired 3 so far, PDI 170% spring /400 fps, cracked the end right off of the mechbox)

The mech box is the casing that holds the gears and things correct? I was under the impression from reading the boards that the mechbox 3 was metal and didnt need to be upgraded, just the stuff on the inside.
From the people i have been talking to it sounds like making a 400 fps gun wont be worth it cause i cant use it in michigan, so im down to 350 now.
Mike, compared to WGC standard upgrade, what would you change that they dont. This is what they say their standard upgrade is for $85:
For mechboxes version 3 Includes - PDI or Systema Spring - Fuse removal ( Reduce resistance ) - Unidirection piston head - Metal bushings - Systema flat gear set. - Include installation
