msed.bbbastard.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=54&Itemid=59This web site has a lot of mathematical models for BB flight, along with details of how they were developed and tested. I'm not competent to judge the quality of the work, but the way he explains it would allow anyone who already knew the field to understand exactly how he put it together. Mad props to redalert for the link.

Looks like 350 FPS is the way to go for the standard field rifle.

It also looks like 0.30's are optimal bb's, not 0.25's!
EDIT: Stapo, whats wrong with 400 for "optimal" FPS? In the tests, he got 15 feet more at 400fps and 0.30's vs. 350 and 0.30's.

Oooooo 5 yards. With the reliability issues, the inability to fight at very close range, and normally slower trigger response, It's just not worth it, other than punching power at close range.

His calculations are impressive, but even some of his stuff he admits is guess work. Especially when it comes to 8mm bb's. Which, I've always believed are superior to 6mm. With 8mm bb's, you could run lower relative velocities and have the same distance. Plus, you could also allow higher sniper velocities without risk of flesh penetrating injury. It makes me sad in the pants that the only 8mm sniper rifle (to my knowledge) is the VFC Barrett M82, and they unfortunately suck balls.
If it weren't for the fact that an 8mm gearbox would likely be an engineering nightmare, I would hope to see some AEG's in the future, but somehow I doubt it.

As cool as it is, the Garand is just a plinker. I don't remember it shooting that that great.

Thor- What of the Marushin M1 Garand? I wouldn't call that a sniper rifle but point taken Kender. Marushin makes several 8mm gas replicas. I still say an 8mm AEG would be fucking awesome.

Until you figured out the cost per shot ratio compare between 6mm and 8mm bbs. For sniper rifle or dmr it is not a big deal but for trigger happy people and saw gunner hope they have high paying income to sustain their trigger pull.

As cool as it is, the Garand is just a plinker. I don't remember it shooting that that great. Actually, my Garand is a delight to shoot. Its just so complicated it gets finicky now and then, and therefore impractical for skirmishing, even as a sniper. Besides, its so beautiful, I don't want to drill and tap the receiver to make an M1C or M1D sniper variant.

So would wind effect .36g bb's the most at close or far ranges?

Um... this thread hasn't been active for almost a year. Please try not to necro-post...

Considering it's a pinned topic, I think it's okay to "necropost". DAZN sniper, did you read through the webpage that Zorak linked to in the first post? It's quite long, and though I haven't read through it myself, it may have the answer for your question.
