New to the Forum, Vietnam loadout
« Thread Started on Dec 2, 2010, 9:15pm »

Hey, I've been playing airsoft for a while now, but I'm new to this forum, moved here from Florida and wanted to greet everyone. One thing I had on my mind, I've been wanting to make a Vietnam loadout, I know all the dear, my Uncle was a vet from that era and told me everything I need. All I need now is a good Vietnam era gun, preferably a M16A1. If anyone could tell me any companies that make a good company that makes them, that would be great. I would prefer one of the more high end brands, due to I'm more experienced (been playing for two years now) and would like a a good and reliable M16A1. So, thank you for reading this and hope to hear back from any of you.

Welcome to the boards. You might want to read up on all the Rules & Regulations we have here; this post would have been more appropriate in the "Impressions" section. But again, welcome!

As far as guns; check out the AEG section and find out what people are saying there; there are some pretty good threads. One of the long running top of the line companies has been TM, and if price isn't an issue there are quite a few brands that will fit the bill.

From my experience which is limited the Classic Army m16vn is a pretty solid rifle. A guy I started with bought one about 4 years ago and it still has not had any problems. Ive seen quite a few of these used go anywhere from as low as $100. That being said many people on here have had some quality issues with CA.

If it was up to me
I would buy this.

And install an A1 hand guard. G&G has proven very reliable and for the price you can't go wrong.

Also this forum http://www.vietnam-airsoft.com is really informative and some guys on there have amazing vietnam impressions.

The gun snafu linked to wouldn't be 100% correct even with the triangle handguards, but it would be fairly close. It really all depends on how anal you get about attention to detail.

What I would suggest is this: pick specifically what type of soldier you want to portray (Army grunt, Marine, MACV-SOG, etc) then start looking for as many pictures as you can. Google is definitely your friend.

There are a few people around here that have done different types of Vietnam era loadouts, so they should be able to steer you in the right direction once they see this thread.

Yeah I knew it wasn't quite correct for an actual A1 but I was trying to direct him more towards the G&G.

If you can find it in stock somewhere, this will be your most accurate full metal option:

http://shop.ehobbyasia.com/aeg/g-p-hong-kong/gandp-m16vn-airsoft-aeg.html

The TM is a solid gun and will last you for a good long time. But it does have a two piece barrel, so it'll develop barrel wobble. You can fix that with an aftermarket barrel, but when you mate a metal barrel with a plastic body, inevitably the metal threads wear on the plastic threads and you get barrel wobble again. So at that point, you need a metal body. Once you've dropped that much change, you might as well have spent the extra time looking for the G&P somewhere.

Thank you all so much for the help! I've heard many great things about G&P's line of weapons, so I will probably go with that. Oh and I would prefer either Army grunt of SOG (Haven't decided yet, probably Army however).

I'd recommend the Classic Army M15A1. Has correct carry handle and handguards. Has no shell deflector. It's the most accurate M16VN impression I've seen. Some people say bad things about CA but I've had a good experience with them and I'd recommend the CA M15A1. I can help you out with a grunt or SOG loadout if you'd like. I'm thinking of going with SOG as I have an xm117. I've never used the G&P M16VN so I cant say anything. I dont really see any visual difference besides the marking on the left side of the magazine well.

I agree with the others in that the G&P is probably the best bet for a good looking and functioning Vietnam era M16. I've had one for years and is a very dependable good weapon.

I've had a standard Army grunt impression for a long time and mainly use it for display with my Vietnam era military vehicles that I've restored. The downside is that there are very few people here in Michigan who are willing to put forth the effort to do a full Vietnam era impression. Most MI players are running all modern stuff. (I have both set-ups) For really good info on Vietnam era impression I suggest visiting http://www.vietnam-airsoft.com/phpBB3/ Just beware there are a handful of stitch nazis there on impressions. As for a good place to start for proper uniforms, I suggest http://www.mooremilitaria.com/ They even have complete packages that can outfit you from steel pot all the way down to your jungle boots.

Good luck and be sure to post up pics once you have it all together.

M14s aren't out of the question with the Vietnam era, of which the G&G has a pretty good track record.

I need to get me some of those, only bad thing about them is you are usually going to be competing against people with mid and high caps at rec games.
