Is it worth it to get a pistol? « Thread Started on Apr 16, 2012, 5:32pm »
Just as the title says.
Reasons for me to get a pistol: -Engagement limit -looks epic -...not many reasons...
reasons not to: -cost -gas
I need to know from people who actually have pistols if you can effectively use them in combat. My limited experience shows that when you sneak up behind someone at point blank range (in a building, maybe) and you raise your overpowered rifle and yell "Surrender!" people may turn around and shoot you. Or they don't say anything then their teammate shoots you. So I buy a very cheap pistol, and when I enter a CQB area I pull it out. Is this a likely scenario?

I have had a couple of pistols and I don't find them to be that particularly useful but I collected them just for the completeness of the kit and how cool they looked. So yeah they are worth it for that one time you may actually use them.

I've found a handgun to be very useful. For when I'm in a crunch and have to reload, but don't have the time. I just switch to my handgun. It does the job well.

Not worth it. Airsoft pistols cant shoot for shit compared to AEGs and are too inconsistent. Put the money towards more mags/batteries for your primary or upgrades.

I think its worth it. I have been in crunches where reloading just wasn't an option, so i drew my sidearm. It may not get you kills, but either way the person is going to put there head down for a little longer.

Always carry a sidearm, especially if you shoot a hot gun. I've used my sidearm so many times it isn't even funny. Plus, it's fun to clear rooms/buildings with a pistol!
That said, the DE is a freakin huge gun. I say this because if you're a regular sized person with regular sized hands, it'll feel big. Also, I would imagine it's a PITA to carry. If you went with a medium-frame pistol (M9, 1911, Hi-Capa, etc.) it would probably fit your hands better, be easier to carry/find holsters for, etc.
Don't worry about cost too much. I would rather spend 100 bucks on a pistol I liked, than spend 55 bucks on a pistol to get me by.

This. You might as well carry extra magazines instead.

I'm with Talisman here. I've held Desert Eagles before and they are huge. The grips really don't fit your hand well unless you are large framed or have very large hands. I would make the same suggestions as Talisman for a pistol to get, I also find Glocks and USPs to be very comfortable but that's for me. The best thing to do is hold each model and get the one that is most comfortable for you. At the end of the day if the gun is not comfortable or too heavy you aren't going to take it out with you, or if you do you aren't going to use it when you need it.
Pistols are a lot of fun to use as a primary as well, if you ever play small CQB rec games they are a blast and can be an advantage when going after an objective. I've used my pistols as my primary plenty but also used them to cover myself when my primary has gone down for one reason or another moving between cover. The most important thing you're going to want to do if you get one is buy a holster that works well for you. See my post here ==> http://miairsoft.proboards.com/index.cgi....8&page=1#508718 for my reasoning.
I say get one, you can get really nice guns for ~100 sometimes below, that will last a long time for you. If you can..get a full metal one. It will last longer and make the gun an absolute blast to use. In all honesty I prefer gbb pistols to any other type of airsoft gun. They function exactly like a real gun, slide lock, some can be decocked and placed on safety and then go double action for the first shot then single action from there. My USP for instance is the same weight as a real one unloaded and functions exactly the same. It makes it so much fun to use and train with. Now to get my g17 and m9 fixed......

I'm with Ike and Bison, generally.
If your rifle is shooting at CQB limits (<350 fps for most MI game) then it is a far better to invest in batteries and extra AEG magazines with the money that you would have spent on the pistol.
If, however, you're shooting above CQB limits with a regular "style" rifle (i.e. not a sniper rifle, or DMR), then a pistol is a basic requirement.
As mentioned above, pistols are nice to have in CQB situations especially if your rifle is long or cumbersome.
As far as the usefulness of pistols, in a regular day of play I draw my pistol twice: first to chamber a round and test fire at the start of a game, and second, at the end of the day, to shoot off the gas and bbs loaded into the gun at the start of the day that I haven't used at all.

I disagree and agree. Reason why I disagree is because I went to a Milsim event last May and ended up getting more kills with my M9 than my CQBR (only guns I had at the time). Both of them were stock and were clocking in around 330fps.
Anyways, you really shouldn't go without a sidearm. If you run out of ammo in a fight, switching to your sidearm may be faster than reloading (depending on how you store mags). When I have my sidearm on me, I also just like using it because it saves battery life on my AEG (even if it's minimal), let's me get closer to opponents, and makes it easier to clear rooms, or whatever else. Just my thoughts.
if you just rub it a whole bunch and super hard it should all come out fairly fast

I think you're all missing the point. GBBs are fun as fuck. Who cares how often you need draw it (that obviously varies from person to person), they're a lot of fun to play around with. If you want to use it and you have one, you're all set. If you don't have one, you never get to use one.
