I'm looking for a good comparison between the Eagle Rhodesian Recon Vest and the Blackhawk STRIKE Commando Recon Vest. They're more or less identical in terms of looks, however I have had a hard time finding a direct comparison between the two. I could go off both companies reputation, knowing that Eagle makes top quality gear at a steep price, and Blackhawk that makes decent gear at a usually budgeted price (but not as bad as Condor), however I'd really like to compare these two pieces specifically. www.opticsplanet.net/eagle-industries-rhodesian-reconnaissance-vest-molle-alice-compatible.htmlwww.opticsplanet.net/blackhawk-tactical-s-t-r-i-k-e-commando-recon-chest-harness.htmlThose are the two vests. I know the Eagle RRV is constructed of 1000D Cordura nylon, but Blackhawk does not specify the material. I'm going to be running an Eagle LVAC plate carrier underneath this so armor carrying doesn't really matter. The Blackhawk is about $90 with free shipping, and the Eagle is about $142. Do you think the Eagle is worth the $42 jump in price?

I say it's worth the jump. One of the primary differences is that the blackhawk has two fastex buckles at the bottom of the shoulder straps. It looks like Blackhawk may also have something different going on in the compartment on the bottom of it. I'd also say you're gonna have an easier time selling a Eagle RRV, especially on ebay.

Jump for the Eagle variant, I had a BHI RRV clone for some time and the fastex always wanted to loosen up. I guess that issue could be fixed by taping up the straps, but it'll still move around a bit more than the EI.
Also, Sean is right, you will have a MUCH easier time reselling. Also, for future reference, the denier of the Cordura really doesn't mean a whole lot. A lot of real gear companies have jumped at the chance to use 400 and 350d to help soldiers save weight, and guys on the other end have had minimal, if any, complaints.
Food for thought.

Yeah I know what you mean about the denier although most guys overseas I've talked to prefer 500D for its balance between strength and weight but it doesn't matter much. I like 1000D for airsoft because I like the heavy feel of "quality" that you get. Sounds like the Eagle is worth it though. I'll probably spring for that when I put together my new chest rig soon. Thanks guys.

Eagle is made in the USA. Blackhawk is made, um, somewhere. I'm happy to buy imported stuff if it's actually better (I do drive a Subaru), but when the US makes the better part, I like to buy it.

EI is now making most of their commercial, non issue gear in the Dominican Republic.
Still leaps and bounds better than the BHI though IMO.

Quite sure. Eagle tags for commercial gear have been marked more and more with "Made in the Dominican Republic" for the past year or so, SKD even still had the "Made in USA" up on their site when a customer inquired about it: zombiehunters.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=68145Also, if you take a look around the EI store, they don't specifically mention "Made in the USA" either. Generally something that would want to be emphasized. www.eagleindustries.com/home.php?cat=16So, take that as you will. If you're truly concerned, I would email Optics Planet to clarify, Werner.

This is true. I think my Eagle chest rig and LVAC armor carrier both say made in D.R. I'll have to double check.

Well, I guess this thread became moot for me anyways because I just bought a TAG Phalanx Type 2 in Multicam, haha.

The Blackhawk has less molle too. The RRV has 15-16 and the CRCH has 14.
Also, I personally loved my CRCH.
